Im pretty sure if you ask efren if he would rather have his old cheap cue he picked up from the bowling alley or the Judd that was made for him. I think the answer is clear as day light. see, generally in my opinion a nice quality built cue, (doesent mean it needs to be expensive or custom) does effect consistency. think about the wood and taper and tip. but on the other hand anyone can adjust to any cue.

The customs being sold here at $400-$600 are way sweeter and have much higher value retention, that's just my two cents.

Isn't the upgrade for the predator cue just the difference between the 314 and the z while it means buying another shaft for the other cues? Not sure on that one but since I don't like piloted cues the economic factor is the only one that comes into play in my analysis, lol.

Good luck with your search whichever way you go!

you just cant go wrong with a Schon, cant go wrong with it. I havent hit many customs, but I have a Schon that has the exact hit I like, the right amount of feedback, that tink noise, its just my perfect cue. If you buy a used one on here, chances are, you will get most of your cash back out of it, hell if I had the cash, I would have bought three or four of the ones that got sold on here.

If I had to choose between the three I'd pick the Schon, but I too feel that for 4-600 you can do better. For one thing if you have $600 in the bank you could get a really killer cue at almost any tournament. Wear a sign on your shirt that you are looking to buy a cue. If you have cash you will steal a great cue. Furthermore, I agree with the rest that you can get a good used custom here for that money. I know that you may like to try it first. You may find a seller like myself who sells on a satisfaction guaranteed basis. You will get stuck for shipping if you have to send it back but if you choose carefully you can get lucky on the first purchase. Last idea, call Troy (Koinkid) and Bill at Cornerstone and ask them what they have in your price range. Others may chime in too. Frankly, right now it's a buyers market. Don't be in a hurry. Good luck...Tom

My regular player is a Gina, but I've owned everything from bushkas, searings, herceks, szambotis and everythin in between. As others have said, within your budget there are many options. For just a few hundred more, you really have quality choices. Perhaps a scruggs, sugartree, or carmelli.

But, if the budget is strict, and your choices are final, then I'd easily choose the schon. (I have a few as backups). I have found that for a production cue, their quality is the most consistent. I also agree on the Z shaft. For many years, I always have my Z shafts custom matched for my cues. I must have 5 or 6 for my Gina. I did it too for a schon I played with after I snapped my original gina over my knee. LOL.

Good luck

Since you're so fond of your Huebler, you could keep an eye on the For Sale forum for a used Huebler.

I agree that it's generally preferable to have cue service done by the cue's maker, but there are many people who can do a great job with routine repairs.

I voted for 'save your money'! This Alan fellow is right. The customs here are being sold at cheaper prices. I know, because I usually sell mine far cheaper than most people would because of the soft market. The resale value will definetly be higher in the long run as well with the custom. Just wait for a good deal here on AZ (which is often) before investing your hard earned money. Anyway, take care and best of luck with whatever you decide. Take care.

Oh! by the way, I love Huebler cues. Had a custom shop Huebler I played with for years.

If you really want one of the three cues you posted, I would vote for the schon.
