Help moving table upstairs

Hi,

I am moving soon and will need to move my 9 ft. Diamond Pro Am upstairs..
I have been thinking about the best, safest method but I wanted some input from someone who may have done this before.

Here are the circumstances:

Straight shot upstairs with 7 foot landing at the top
Short half-wall that runs about 8 feet at top of stairs
Slate (off table) weighs somewhere around 700 lbs.

I have thought about moving straps with 6 guys on table and a couple of guys in front and back to secure.
At the top, rest on landing and sort of roll slate over the half-wall on a moving blanket..
Done.

Any better suggestions?

I think he wants to get it out of the old house..
Lots of muscle

If you get a 4 wheeled dolly that will help move it around to where you've got to get it too. let the dolly do the work getting it situated to save your strength for going up the stairs. Another thing you could get from a moving company would be what they call a piano board, it is about 6 foot or so and has straps on it and at 1 end it has a covererd piece of wood that you put the edge of the slate up against so that it won't slip backward. You could put your other moving straps (the movers call them hump straps) throught the straps on the piano board. Put some moving pads on the floor where your going to set it down so you don't mess up your floors. good luck.

I don't suppose there's any place to connect a pulley at the top of the stairs, is there? Or perhaps add a counterweight out a 2nd floor window and slide the slate up the stairs that way?

That's not exactly a cheap table are professionals outside your price range or timeframe?

Professionals would be fine, but no table movers will even move a Pro Am..
I have the Diamond dolly so that's not the issue from house to house...

I have called some granite fabricators also and they won't touch it.

I'm going to give a couple movers a call..

I don't know if there is a United Freight of Allied Movers in your area.. They got me through to someone who could move a 9 ft slate table a couple of years ago..

Rigging Company

Look up on the Internet for Rigging Companies in your area. These guys are used to moving heavy items in extremely tight places. I am sure they can handle your situation with ease. Hope this helps.

Table

The slate should be the only problem, as for the rest of the table going up the steps~> the table base frame is designed to come apart down to the plywood.

I know that the top Diamond Mechs use the otlvise to help them move their tables makes their job so much easier.

I know an a-1 master who told me when he had need for grunt work, he went to golds gym and offered a nice little sum to some big boys for a couple hours work.

That's how hed get a 10' slate up a wet& grassy hill.

I'd cut the slate in half, move it upstairs in 2 pieces, then steel plate join it back together again....that way if it's ever moved again, the order could be reversed.

It has never been where it is going.

I hit balls on it and it is sweet!

Its definitely never been where its going..

I considered cutting it in half but I just don't like the idea.. I want to keep it whole if possible.

On a new note; got some detailed floor plans of the new house and there will be room to bring up the stairs and slide it into the room.. No going over railing.
I think that will make things much easier..

Duh. I thought the problem was getting it out of its current location, not getting it into its new location.

Good luck.
