Help Organizing a One Pocket Tourney in Raleigh, NC

I bartend at a pool hall in Raleigh, NC

10-9ft Crown Gold VI's

I am trying to strum up some interest in the local area and want to get an idea of any advice for setting a tournament up.

The main problems I am running into is Handicapping the race and what a buy-in might work out to be. Obviously a $10 buy in is almost pointless, but a $100-$200 buy in might be too much for the players in this area.

I would love to run one to help generate some business for the pool hall and also to learn more from good players.

Any advice?
Any interest?
If I can set one up in the next 2 months I will sending out tournament announcements.

For the Local area, my best guess is I can find 8 players willing to buy in for $100, maybe around 16 player for the $50 range.

If anyone has an interest in playing, let me know.
If enough interest is generated locally and on here.... I will run the tournament around mid-late March.

Thanks everyone. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If this helps, Gate City Billiards in Greensboro ran a couple of one pocket tournaments last year. They were not handicapped, race to 2, double elimination, $30 entry with 100% payout, and drew an average of 16 players.

I would say around a 50$ entry works well in the present economy. I would limit to 16 polayers race to 3 with no handicap. You also need to know what greens fees would be and how much the pool hall will add if any. Most of the palces I have talked to are willing to add what ever they are charging for greens fees. I ran one with out the greatest turnout. Feel free to get back back to me with any questions you may have. I learned alot.

Thanks Tim and Dynamic.... I may have to look into the pool hall in Greensboro. It's hard to find many competitive one pocket players.
I would probably talk the owner into matching some of the purse and take out no greens fees. $50 buy in. No handicaps.
Probably break it down into (given 10 players) $350 for 1st and $200 for 2nd. If we don't charge greens and the bar adds $50. Atleast that will get some one-pocket players in there.

Thanks for the advice. Any other advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
