Help Please!! Identify/Verify, David Kersenbrock

A friend brought this over today, he bought the cue about 20 years ago. Was
sold to him as a Kersenbrock. It was pretty beat up when he got it. Cue is straight. He would like to know approx. age and value.
Is there any identifying marks? Who would you send it to for verification and/or a refinish. Thanks for any help. David

Handle

Would also like to know what the wood is in the handle?
I believe the Butt and Forearm are Tulipwood with Birdseye points.
 
I would send it to Ed Young in Chicago. Ed currently works with Kersenbrock in the same shop. Eds phone number is 312-519-2505. I wouldnt recommend anyone else. Let me know if its for sale. I may be interested.
 
I would put my money on it being a Kersenbrock. Nice cue you have there.

The Handle area looks to be some kind of Burl wood, or perhaps
a stained Maple. Not really sure what kind, but is a wood handle.
 
is that a weight bolt in the butt?i don't think it looks like a Kersenbrock,but i can't really say what it is.
 
It has some similarities

The jointwork, pin and forearm look similar to this DPK. I'm not sure what happened to the buttcap :rolleyes: However, that bumper doesn't look right at all -- appears to have been replaced with a Valley/Dufferin house cue style bumper at some point.

Dave, if your friend would like to have this cue cleaned up just give me a call ;)
 
that's what i was thinking.butt cap and bumper are not even close,and only an total idiot would have had that changed at any point.nobody would have changed a Kers to that knowingly.

The handle wood I am about 75% sure it's pomele figured katalox. It's a dark brown wood, nearly black. My guess is that it's actually darker than it looks in the picture. Camera flash has a way of bringing the colors brighter. But i'm pretty sure that's what it is. It grows in Mexico's Yukatan & is cut with any of the other trees like bocote or cocobolo. It gets mixed in with any imported shipment of Mexican exotics, so it's likely that he found the wood in a woodworking store that deals with exotics. Pomele figure is RARE for that wood. I have only had one piece myself & until now it's the only one I ever seen. Nice cue!!!!

Very possible the original owner just didn't realize how valuable this cue was.
He obviously played it hard, the cue is banged up all over. David

Talked to Sean, the owner of this cue, this morning. He is going to send it to Ed to Verify and Refinish. Thanks for your help. Dont think he's going to sell it. David
 
finally get to post, this is my cue and the story goes, years ago my mom was a local bartender and i was playing A league pool, putting lots of practice time in. one of her elder gentleman customers gave me the cue. I have only had the ferule replace because it was cracked. everything has been original and never dropped since the first day i owned it. there were two people that tried to get it from me back then, they knew what it was and i never knew for sure until David posted here. thanks for all your help, now i'm waiting for ed to call me back. Any idea on the value?
 
hey mason, I looked in the bottom and found no bolt or metal at all, the bumper was as it was when i got it. not sure what else to say., matter of fact i just took the bumper off again and that inner circle seems to be made of rubber? if you want other picks i can take more, i shoot a nikon d80 with macro, i also have studio lights to get all the colors up clear. ask and you shall recieve
