I just got an espiritu and had him out a 3/8x10 joint pin in it. Well i tried to put my mezz hp2 3/8x10 brand new shaft on it and it just wont work. I think maybe the threads on the joint pin arent deep enough maybe? Like the center core of my joint pin is thicker than a normal 3/8 pin. Like it has shallower threads i guess. Just trying ti describe it. Please help lol. I.dunno what to do and maybe messed up the new shaft tryin to see if itd go on and was just being tight. Also if the threads pn the shaft got messed up can they be fixed , i ask because it looks like its a plastic insert?
Pleeeease advise

great

I asked for it it be built with a 3/8x10 pin. I guess i should have asked for a NORMAL 3/8x10 pin thatd fit other shafts with 3/8x10. Thats why i asked for it lol cuz i have other shafts. My shaft will fit on regular 3/8 pins though im pretty sure.

Can i have someone change the joint pin on my cue? Or is this possible.

In all honesty, it's probably a minor issue that wouldn't take much to correct.
A pic may give us something to work with.

Here is a picture of the modified espiritu joint pin, and a regular sized 3/8x10 joint pin for his cue. I am posting this picture for shortyz (it is his picture that he emailed me, and requested me to post it for him).

I'ts a very easy 'fix'. The hole in the shaft just needs to be bored out to the dia. of the minor dia. of the pin. A shaft that fits this will fit the other style of 3/8 pin. I would contact Espiritu and see if he'll modify the shaft to fit the pin, if you send it to him. Another option is if you have a competent cue repair person nearby, then they could do it. It takes about 3 minutes.

Wouldn't you just want the pin changed so you could use those other shafts? Instead of only making one shaft work?

I just ran into the same situation and it took about 1 minute to bore the shaft. Problem solved. A pin change is a lot bigger deal and should run from 5X to 10X the money.

Thank you for the pic. The problem is now obvious.
As others have said, it has to do with the 'minor' diameter of the Espiritu pin.
The minor dia. is the distance across the pin measured at the bottom of the 'V'.
The minor on the Espiritu pin is considerably larger than the std 3/8x10 pin.
I'll bet that it doesn't even start into the hole.

Again, as stated, you have at least two immediate options.
1.) Have all the shafts that you intend to use on this handle opened up to at least the minor dia. of the Espiritu pin.
2.) Replace the pin in the Espiritu handle to a std 3/8x10 pin and all your shafts will fit, even the orig. shaft.
Granted, as Paul said, swapping the pin will be more money. Myself, I'd pay the money.
Be a sport and offer the job to the Espiritu shop first.

Taking a bit out of the inside of a shaft makes much more sense than changing a pin. You could probably run a reamer through it without a lathe and be just fine. I try and think of every cue as invaluable to it's owner. I wouldnt replace a pin on a Gina so an aftermarket shaft fits, nor any other for that mattet.

radial

I look it up in my book
from what I read russ only uses 5/16x 14 AND RADIAL pins ................................
from the picture it looks lika a radial pin to me.

I had to replace one of Espiritu G10 3/8-10 pins. The cue owner stiped it some how. (god only knows how). The cue was a few years old and Mr Espiritu told me he did use 3/8-10 on that cue.

Mike, with all due respect, Radials are rounded on the minor, not flat.
Radial pins are this:

I see the difference ,Thank you,
I was hoping by looking up the cue maker would give correct info on pin sizes .

3rd edition cue collectors book list Russ E cues with a radial pin or a 5/16x14,
It was the one feature that I really like about the book was it gave every custom cue maker pin size.
check it out page 281

Anyway I was wrong sorry guys ,

fixed

Ok i figured id.post what happened. You guys were right and thanks for the info. I had a cuemaker somewhat nearby drill it out. He barely took any out and it fits just fine now. Took about 2 seconds and no charge so ill say thanks to Chris' Cues. He makes some nice cues also, i got to hit with a few of them and they are nice. Anyways i know a little more about threads now and thanks again for the replies.

Glad it worked out well, and you made a new friend that makes cues,....a win-win :D

Well i tried to put my mezz hp2 3/8x10 brand new shaft on it and it just wont work.

I assume you bought the shaft tapped by Mezz? My experience with Mezz is that they seem to bore and tap their thread for smaller ID 3/8x10 typically found on older non-flat 3/8x10 joint.

I had exactly same problem as you when I tried to screw on my Mezz shaft to a flat faced 3/8x10 joint and had to fix it the same way.

I just ran into the same situation and it took about 1 minute to bore the shaft. Problem solved. A pin change is a lot bigger deal and should run from 5X to 10X the money.

And the fix is working just fine, kind sir!

In fact, I may just sent you the other 163 shafts i have so you ca make em all thread that way!

Not really...but I am glad i trusted an expert such as you, thanks again!

Yes it was a mezz. He fixed it using a lathe and just bored the shaft with the standard 3/8x10 tap he uses on his shafts that take the regular non-flat 3/8 pin. Just posted this in case anyone ran into the same problem. Its such an easy fix id recomend doing this instead of changing your butt pin.
