Help with cue choice

Hello all pool players :)

I'm a fairly new player and still learning the game. I've found a low budget cue that i want to buy. However, the cue tip on it is water buffalo, which is recommended for breaking, and i need a cue to play with. So, can i buy a normal cue tip and replace it, and if there is some kind of "changing the tip" guide, please link me. Ty

Unless you are on an extremely tight budget I think you should pass on a $23.00 cue.

That's a playing tip. No need to change it. Try it out first before deciding to change it.

But I think you can do better than that for a cue, even on a tight budget. The "Doctor Cheng" cues, for those who aren't aware, are Delta Cues.

Ty for response...

I've googled the tip, and found out that it is used for breaking, but as you said, will try before changing, that's for sure. Can you recommend me some cues which i can find on E-bay or similar stores, as i don't have access to pool stores in my country (Bosnia)...

Like I tell the medical students I teach, you can believe Google, or you can believe me.

At least 90% of the information on the internet is BS, and that is a very conservative estimate.

Then again, you found my response on the internet.....pick your poison. ;)

Edit:

For cues on a very tight budget you might look at the McDermott Lucky series or perhaps Players cues. You can probably pick up a Players brand Sneaky Pete pretty cheap. It won't be a flashy as that painted DC cue...but if you ask me a sneaky pete is a lot more nice looking than a flashy cheap cue with paint or decals on it. Probably shoot better too. There are others but those are the first two that come to mind.

I don't really care about the looks... Actually, McDermott Lucky that i've found is even better looking then the DC i've found (cause it's full wood painted) :)

Will search a bit more over E-bay... Ty for your recommendation...

My son has a Players Sneaky Pete, and he loves it. Has never warped, and can be used for breaking as it has a piloted brass insert at the joint. Really well made cue for the money.

I think the Lucky cues are decals also.

Yeah. The Lucky line from McDermott is a good low priced option. I've shot with plenty of "cheap" cues costing less than $100 and the Lucky shoots the best out of all I've tried. It is just painted with decals but it is constructed well and has a good tip. Definitely better than any house cue. I got mine for $40 and it is dead straight, has irish linen wraps, and a triangle tip. That said. I have also shot with very nice, high end, "real cues", and you can definitely feel the difference. In the end it's all about value and what it's worth to you. I know I am now eyeing a new cue for the improved technology they're using in shafts and tips. I really like these G-Core shafts with the Everest tips. Can anyone whose using the new McDermott's comment on their performance?

I bought the cheapest McDermott G series with points, the G226, It plays very nicely and is very similar to my Players HXT E10 which cost half as much, (HXT is Players LD shaft), and certainly looks much more expensive than the McDermott. I keep them both in the same 2x4 box case because they play so much alike.

The Players cue is half the price of the McD and has sharp points...........
