I am looking for some realistic opinions on the value of the Richard Black cue shown below. I have a letter from Richard Black stating that the his price to make the cue right now would be $6400. I am going to list it for sale, but would appreciate any guidance from someone knowing the resale market value's better than I do.

Thanks in advance!!!

You can't rely on what the current price of this cue is from Richard Black unless he also stated that he's taking a couple orders a month for this very same cue.
This would better reflect the true market demand and it's only the market demand that determines the price of anything. That's why you see Rolex watches and
Omega and Breitling and Patek swatches selling for less than what the same watch ordered new would be.....it's always supply and..........wait for it....."demand".

See what others have to say but don't be startled if the answers reflect only a percentage of what the cue would cost new. The best expert around, bar none, on
Richard Black pool cues and who just happens to have the largest collection of Richard Black cues anywhere on his website (www.cornerstonecues.com) is Bill
Grassley. He can provide you with an expert, trustworthy opinion of this cue's value in today's marketplace which still remains weak and the awful truth is most
cues don't command full values anymore. Having said that, when you buy a collectible cue in today's market, i.e., discounted, that cue retains its most of its value
because the price the cue sold for is adjusted for today weak resale market that probably won't go any lower and has a good chance for gain....but that's still a risk.

I would say a fair market price "today" would be $3,000-$3,500 but keep in mind, cues in that range today aren't moving fast at all. Just my opinion. Very nice cue by the way.

The thing in my mind that helps the cue is that it isnt one of his "standard" models.

You probably know that he, Ernie, Tad, Stroud, and alot of other cuemakers had standard "catalog" cues that they build alot of the same model over and over, somewhere between a custom and a production cue, IMO.

If you can get a letter from Richard with the information you noted that he said I think it helps.

I have had RB cues in the past and liked them, but IMO, RB cues are not super hot or command premium prices, like a Searing, etc.

I would offer a number but it would be a WAG, and doesnt add any merit.

I wish you the best of rolls,

Ken

My guess under 3k. But I am not an expert by any means- just look at what cues sell in az

The question should read..
How much would pay for this cue right NOW?
The responses would be interesting..

Thats how I always approach these threads.

Everytime I put out a number I get everyone pi$$ed, but I treat the folks on here the same as I would treat my friends at the pool hall.

Thats why I dont try to blow smoke up someones a$$ and tell them its worth much more than what he should expect to get. I try to honestly tell him what I would be willing to give or expect.

On this cue, it is not like any RB I have seen. I have no interest in the cue, but for someone it might be the Valentine special.;)

The law in proposal states ivory cannot be sold over state lines, wich means most curmakers will probably start getting out of ivory, which is still desirable, so ivory cues will become sought after because they will become a thing of the past and no more to be made. History shows us this kind of law increases the value. You can still sell it within your state, and i havent read anything yet about buying across state lines. Maybe you cant take it out of state with intention of selling but why not some one come to you to buy. We'll see what comes of this proposed law soon enough, gprgeous cue like this will always be sought after

First:
Is every thread regarding an ivory cue going to go like this?

We know what came out and there are other threads to voice your ivory issues on...

Second:
Very painful question when you ask a cuemaker what the cue goes for new and what the market will actually pay for the cue now.

IT should be at least a 4k cue, the man is an institution and its a one off cue. However there are a lot of factors involved in price/perception and value.

Hell he should move to the south east where putting a rectangle in a cue is called precision and even the only time your cue will see a worlds champions hands, is on TV, then it would be priceless.

Sad to say but if those white inlays are Ivory, the cue will soon have no value except in the black market.
Yeah, but the black market typically commands 2-3 times values! If you say people can't have something, they want it. All this ivory BS is just the final stages of brainwashing in this country. Getting ridiculous.

I'd say $3500 for this one. It's hell selling anything lately. Best of luck.

Cue is for sale..............

Bring offers if you are interested, someone is going to get a deal on a Brand New Richard Black from the past.

Good Luck!!!!!!

It's an unfortunate market for custom cues....everybody wants a to get them at a steal. Best to price them at what you can stomach and play it along with the market. I think this cue was sold on here before..so there always price precedent to consider as well. A lot of the buyers on here are very well informed on prices...especially with cue that have been advertised and sold previously on ebay and Az. Good Luck with your sales.

Sold on here before??????

Hey Cuemaster,

What makes you think this cue was sold on here before? If so, can you please send me the link that makes you think this, I would love to know what it sold for if it did. I bought it out of a collection that supposedly it had been in for numerous years and was still in unplayed, brand new condition until I chalked it to hit a few balls.

Thanks for the info if you have some........

Check with Bill Grassley At Cornerstone Cues.....he's the best expert on Richard Black cues that I
know of anywhere. He personally owns Richard Black's Harpoon cue and the others RB cues in Bill's inventory are incredible.
Bill will give you a reliable estimate.......he's a straight shooter & trustworthy.
