Hi
I'm looking to see if this is a brunswick gold crown before I make the trip to get it. Owner doesn't know. Looks like it has the "B" above where you rack.

What's throwing me off is the rack holder, and also its a gloss black top with darker wood legs and doesn't have the brunswick logo in the short rail where you break from. Also, the sides are metal looking, like the top metal corners of the table. They said its not white in color like the pictures might make it look like. Its definitely metal.

Thanks in advance,
Tim

I think it's a knockoff. A Gold Crown I-III would have a Brunswick badge on the headrail. The Gold Crown IV doesn't but the rails look too narrow to be a IV. It also has the Gold Crown I-II style counters so IF it is a Gold Crown, it's not a III. It's hard to tell from the pics but is there a Brunswick logo on the ball tray bezel?

Yep, something looks screwy, about that table. The skirt boards look like they are flapping in the breeze.

Yea it has the brunswick logo i believe above where you rack. Yea I thought it seemed strange. It doesn't have the badge on the rail either.

I have never seen a triangle holder like that on a GC either, my guess is that it is a cheap knock off GC.

i tend to think its a GC but not just ONE GC. Looks like a pile of GC parts made into one table. So many were made this would be very easy to do.

Wow that's weird. Is it close to you? It might be worth a drive just to see what it is up close. If its legit GC with mismatched parts, the head rail can only be from a GC4, since it has no nameplate and the pocket irons are 90 degrees. The foot rail looks like GC1/2 vintage with the larger score counters.

The skirts being metal, I've never heard of that. Maybe the current owner is mistaken, especially if they don't even know if its a Brunswick or not?

I don't think the GC IV rails would bolt up to GC I-III pocket castings and vice versa. I'm pretty sure the rails are wider on the GC IV. My money is on a non Gold Crown with some Gold Crown parts mixed in. Unless someone went through the trouble of replacing the formica (eliminating the badge in the process) those aren't Brunswick rails.

It is a Gold Crown I/II... The apron hangers, score counters, and aluminum castings are the telling signs.

The rails may likely have been painted gloss black. You can see a scratch in the foot rail. The Brunswick badge on the head rail may have been missing, so whomever restored the table may have filled the cavity when they were painted.... Just my guess, as it's hard to tell from these photos.

I've seen painted formica rails on a Gold Crown. If done right, they turn out very nice, and last a long time (though not nearly as durable as standard formica).

The aprons aren't installed correctly on this one, so I'm a bit leery of the rest of the work (cushions, facings, cloth install, etc). However, as a Gold Crown, it should have decent bones. And, at least from these photos, the paint/finish work looks decent. Though, I am not a fan of that custom triangle holder. If the price is right, I wouldn't hesitate.
