It looks like very old Goncalo Alves that the stripes have faded away on. That is the down side with that wood is it loses it beautiful Tiger stripes as it ages.

I'd have to check the grain pattern and texture on some of my pieces, but when you say bright orange dust, I instantly think padauk. I know you did a padauk Titlist before.

I'd agree. Padauk starts out orange and turns brown over time. This has those small pores throughout that screams padauk.

Is this cue heavy or really light? If it is Padauk it will be light and if it is Goncalo Alves it will be medium heavy. Mahogany is about that color and was popular on old house cues, but I thought of Goncalo Alves because you can see the dark striping near the end which was probably covered up by the bumper and therefore did not fade as fast as the rest. Padauk and Mahogany would not have those stripes.

the sanding dust

the cue is .83 at the joint and 1.30 at the butt and 29 inches long as pictured it weights 11.51 oz.
the dust is what gets me, it is very fine, it is almost like cedar dust.

I claim the tropical hardwood triva trophy for knowing it is Padauck
that is not from the Adaman(sp?) Islands:).

Your version used to be commonly known as Vermillion - it was boiled
to make red dye
