Before I start this thread I want to make it clear I’m talking about open tournaments, not long races, a head action matches, or gambling of any sort. And it’s not about they have their own tour.
I believe by the end of this year we will see the top 20 women pros, and more young guns coming up every month, cashing regularly in many open tournaments. First of all out of necessity. With only 4 or 5 WPBA tournaments now they need to play in more open’s to bring their income back up. We are already seeing more and more of them playing in them and some are already doing pretty well.
Now that Corey and others use the soft break successfully in 9-ball, there is no reason top women can’t compete with men in tournament formats. If 14.1 was played more you would see more of them competing and cashing too. They have a slight handicap in 10-ball and 8-ball with the break, but can get around it somewhat by playing good safeties. I can see that a lot of the women are getting more and more comfortable and confident since a few women have already played and done well in open tournaments. I believe by the end of next year it will be commonplace to see women cashing in the final 8 of major tournaments. I only wish the pure game of 14.1 would come back like it was before 9-ball took over, because that’s where I think they would really shine. Johnnyt
