Hey, JAM

It's a work in progress. Last time mention was made of it on this very forum, it was like a nightmare, that just kept getting worse and worse, if you know what I mean! :D

Keith's story is one which I think merits a worthy representation of pool here in America. He is one of the last great American players to triumph in an era when pool shined its brightest on American soil, quite a different climate then than now.

We are both conflicted about pool today, but for different reasons, and in order to write, one must have passion, something which I am continuing to struggle with.

JAM,

Yes, as I recall, you took offense at my suggestion that someone less emotionally involved with Keith might be a better choice to write the book. Looking back, I'd like to appologize for making the suggestion. While it was my honest opinion at that time, I now see that it was likely to be a hurtful comment that probably served no useful purpose. I hope you have had time to forgive if not forget.

Thanks for the words of encouragement and the offer of photos of Keith!

Good to see JAM posting again. I know how it feels at home since the IPT, JAM, but don't let it steal your joy for pool. You're a great person and we have missed you. Good luck with Walter Reed. I applaud yours and Keith's efforts in cheering up the vets.

Thanks, Linda and to ALL, for the kind words.

Let me be clear, Linda, that the IPT has not stolen my joy for pool, or Keith's for that matter. We both believe that the IPT was a good thing.

Rather, it is the political climate in today's American pool which is the nail in the pool coffin for me, so to speak. Keith, on the other hand, has discovered Internet poker, and he's making money which is always a good thing in Keith's mind. I am sure this year, we both will venture out to a few pool tournaments, but things will NEVER be the same, and it has nothing to do with the IPT.

We will be attending some regional events this year and maybe the Open, but that's about all there is to look forward to in today's politically driven American pool climate for players like Keith McCready. However, going to Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital, which is 5 minutes away from me, is what we are both striving for, to put on an exhibition day for the veterans. At least Keith and I will both be able to enjoy pool at its finest, giving back in our small way. In fact, I think we both will benefit more from this experience than the veterans themselves which, hopefully, will ignite a little pool spark in both of us. :p

Wishing you and Mike the very best.

Jam,

I have an idea to share with you. I hope you will give it some thought, and maybe I can help you. Just PM me if you like it.

Why not book Keith on an exhibition tour across the USA. He can play a little pool, maybe a 9-Ball match with a local player, show a few things and just talk, talk, talk. You know, do what he does best.

Ain't it the truth, Jay! :D Thanks for the great suggestion. :)

For several Christmases, we have gone to a nursing home in my area which has a pool table and spend the day there with the residents. The first time we went, I didn't know what to expect, but I personally wanted to do this, and Keith complied with my wishes.

We brought along the movie "The Color of Money" and showed it to the residents. Much to our surprise, there were a couple of older gentlemen and a few ladies who played pool, and they really enjoyed meeting Grady Seasons. We then just hung out with them for the rest of the day, and Keith played pool with everyone until they got tired, but he was chattering away, laughing, and putting on The Keith McCready Show.

Your idea sounds great, Jay. Keith must get some experience in doing this sort of thing first. This is why I am hoping that we will get the opportunity to go to Walter Reed Army Medical Center Hospital and put on an exhibition day for the veterans, and it will give us a chance to develop some substance to Keith's initial presentation.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement, Jay, and I'll keep you posted if The Keith McCready Show shows enough promise to go national. The nursing home and the Army hospital provide a captive audience, but when you see the look in the eyes, especially of the nursing home residents, it really lifts your heart and makes you feel good. I'm all about feeling good today in the autumn of my life! :)

It will be a BIG hit with the veterans. Johnnyt

Man, I sure do hope so. I hope we get the opportunity to do it. If and when it does happen, I will, of course, take some pictures and post 'em up.

With my brother's one and only son getting ready to go overseas to Iraq, this is very meaningful to me. I also happened to go to Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital until I was 18, being an Army brat. Both of my parents passed away right there at Walter Reed, too. I have two brothers who today are service-connected veterans. This is a golden opportunity for me and Keith, the way I see it. I hope I can get connected to the right individuals to make this happen. There's a whole lot of bureaucracy to tackle, but I believe it is doable.

I think it's the perfect fit for Keith at this point in his career. He has ALWAYS been an entertainer. It's in his blood.

i love your avatar JAM, Street Sense made me some pretty decent cash this last saturday

Man, I almost hit the triple, with a dollar-triple-box on the 2-6-7, and as you know, it came out 7-8-2.

I really, really, really enjoyed seeing Calvin Borel win this Kentucky Derby. A Louisiana Cajun who has been around horses since he was knee high, Calvin devoted his life to the game, as he puts it, and finally his dream came true. What a great Kentucky Derby. I can't wait for Hi, Ho, Pimlico!
