Heyball big money tourney

To be honest, all billiards games can be boring if it takes forever to take a shot even with the shot clock…
I always bring this story:
At the 2003 WPC, I’ve asked Alex Pagulayan while a bunch of players and fans were sitting around, what does he think that needs to be done to get more pool on TV (no streaming back then), his reply: watching pool is boring, I rather watch porn

I can fall asleep during pool regardless of the game.
I blame the boring commentators as well.

You still don't get it. I AM a 1pkt fan and YES i'm still complaining. The reason that me(and a shitload of other pool fans) don't like it is that 8ball was never meant to be this fkng slow. Its a poor variation of a great game imo. Call-shot, take what you make on a regular 9ft. is the way to play. Not this snookerized snoozefest. I've seen 1pkt sets go by faster than some of this i've watched.
You're assuming you're preference is the way it's meant to be or should be. The biggest issue with 8b is all the variations of "the way to play".

While I'm no C-8b fan, (nor hater), at least it does provide some level of effort. 8b on a 'normally' cut table, is far to easy a game. Probably why it's so popular in the States.

I don't know how old are you guys but I have to admit, the older I get, the less patience I have...
20 years ago I would consume any pool related brodcast and couldn't get enough, nowadays I prefer the highlights version of things.

52... The best way to watch pool is with your finger on the skip 10sec button... ;)

To me the whole heyball production is like a carnival setting during introduction and straight to the morgue when match play begins.
I can't watch it, I tried I just can't get past the sterile feeling of it. Honestly most of the matches these days feel that way. Great pool just way too uptight feeling. Jmo

Got invited to one event in Hangzhou last night. First place is 3,000,000rmb...
Pay out down to 112 place...
Problem is it's 10+ day event, and I have an actual job...

The theatrics are for people streaming the event. The game itself is thought provoking and interesting if you have time to watch it. If you don't have the time to invest in it, and follow it through til it's conclusion, then it is hard to enjoy/get deeply involved in it. Similar to snooker in that respect.

Simple logic to me.
Heyball works.
Equipment is too ornate and expensive.
Pockets make actual pool impossible.

Outfit American tables with the shallowest, narrowest apertures practical. Have 'em over for dinner.

Anyone know who is through. I saw Gareth Potts, who I mentioned in another topic as being good enough to move to 9 ball, was in last 16

Anyone in the last 16 could more than easily go blow for blow with some of the best 9ball only players. A lot of them also play DUYA 9ball anyway (very interesting to watch if you've never). Some of them also play various American table 9ball tourneys periodically in some of the cities here (Nanjing, Xiamen etc). Fact is, there's not the money in it to get them to play a game that is essentially a 'coin flip' between the top tier players.

I remember he went to DCC a few years ago and didn't play. Shirley a challenge match could be arranged?
