Heyball big money tourney

Zheng Yubo? it's more wonky head than lazy eye I think. Don't follow who wins beyond the chat that gets posted in groups, or on WeChat moments here. So I generally have a grip on who's playing well, but not all the winners. Any specific questions are easy enough to answer though. I have some friends working or playing the events.
Yubo had brain surgery a few months ago.

it seems to be 50/50 among the top players, pool/snooker background.

i saw one match today, semifinal i guess, phone myint played with a heyball pool cue but his opponent played played with a snooker cue. that other guy played incredible. like 6 BNR's to start the match (winner break). the commentators didn't know who he was. he took the lead 16-8 but phone myint came back 16-15 then the stream cut off.

for a race that long the pace was good. i had it on at work, in the background. they had shot clock but no match clock

Even if I'm not inclined to watch Heyball, I'm happy for all these great cueists for whom such great prize money is available.

If the number of tournaments and prize funds in Heyball keep growing, I wonder whether:

a) young cueists that once grew up playing snooker and American pool will start gravitating to Heyball

b) some of the most established cueists already playing snooker and American pool will start deemphasizing the game they have always played in favor of developing their skills at Heyball.

c) some cueists will consider moving to China (if that's even possible) to gain access to the best players and to be close to the most important competitions. Once upon a time, Allison Fisher, Karen Corr, Kelly Fisher, Darren Appleton, Jayson Shaw, Mike Immonen and others moved to the United States for a similar reason with respect to American pool.

Let's see how this plays out.

i think they gonna have to move to china to be competitive, which is a big hurdle. i presume gareth potts lived there part time when he won the event three times, and the myanmar guy (phone myint) lives there now. i don't think we'll lose too many pool players to heyball. fading snooker players seem to try their hand at the game, but with little success

I meant the original snooker. 12' I can relate. Impossible rail shots, not so much. Any clue how those pockets evolved? I did the big balls small pockets in the 70s. I love shooting at the holes but not any game on snooker pockets - not even golf.
I'll ask my dad, this is something he is likely to know. I imagine like most things, it has been a case of 'trial and error'
I wonder why so many of the players are using snooker cues with pool sized balls.
The implication of class, skill and lore associated. 'One piece' has a better feel. Bala Bala Bala... I mean one reason the wait for custom snooker cues is so high, is because someone will go ahead and order a ton of them for re-sale here. When they get here, they are often further bastardized into suitable cues for the Chinese-8 ball table. Hacking bits off to get the tip to the desired size.

They like to offer past greats the money to show up. Of course they want to win, but they take a pretty big payday just for being there. China quite likes the 'mega universe grand ultra champion' to be home talent.

Do you have any information to share regarding this? I'm asking a few friends here now. I cannot seem to find anything about it. I thought I saw him whilst flicking through the Youtube stream a day or two ago.
Information was shared by commentator. The South African woman on the live stream

I think perhaps you misheard and the commentator was referencing a previous surgery which he underwent some years ago. I asked my friend who follows it like religion, and this was his answer.

"Hi man, I never heard he recently had another surgery. I saw a video he played with Yang Fan in this event, 12:13 lost. So I think he should be eliminated"

If it's snooker pockets you are wondering about, Clive Everton wrote several books on the history of English cue sports, including the development of the table. I think the pockets were decided on about 100 years ago. The size of the pockets were a bone of contention around 1890 and part of the negotiations for matches.
