I've read most of Sarah's posts and I really do like her and admire her as a attractive, young woman, and a gifted Professional "athlete". In any case, I truly have no ulterior motives other than to learn, and interact with Ms. Rousey and others on this Board.

I feel very honored @ even being asked to fill out an app., but I just looked at myself in the mirror and there's just NO way!!!

Got another technique question...How do you practice your mechanics in terms of keeping the back end of the cue perfectly straight and in line with the forearm/shaft of the cue. In other words you can see that the front of your shaft is in line with your shot, but what about the butt end? Sounds dumb but a late great pool coach (Hal Mix) said the good players "Know" that the back end of the cue stick is in line with front part of the cue.

I really worry about my wrist/hand being perpendicular with my elbow and keeping them in line (like yours!!!). Also, "knowing" the back end of your cue is line with the front of the shaft is very important but tough to "feel". Just thought I'd throw this at yah' and see what you think about this (nonsense?).

To be honest, I don't really practice my mechanics or I don't do anything specific to practice them. I am not perfect. I turn my wrist often, especially when I am not practicing enough. I sometimes hold my cue too tightly when I have to hit a ball hard. It is mostly mental. I have to remind myself to take things slow, keep things loose and follow through. I guess I have been doing this long enough that I can tell when things feel wrong and just automatically try to correct them. I'm sorry I don't have a better explaination.

I remember reading some things on Allyson Fisher's website and she says almost the exact same thing... stay relaxed and give a nice smooth delivery on the stroke. She focuses a lot on mechanics when she practices isolating specific areas so she can get her muscle memory and body awareness razor sharp.

Actually from what you said previous, you are really practicing your mechanics. You are totally aware with what's going on with your stroking arm, wrist, etc.. I've been playing on and off for years but often don't get a feel when I'm doing something incorrectly. Sigh... yah' darn natural!!! Lol!!!

Uh, I don't know you well 'nuff yet to decide whether or not I should pity your inevitable significant other! Ha!!! It will be a sad day for us when it does happen!

Who said it wasn't fun?? I actually took my first injection today, and one of my roommates(Kelly) said she wanted to do it, because she was afraid I wouldn't do it right, because of the angle. I said "okay, sure."...she puts the needle up to my arm....then suddenly stops and yells "WAIT!....I can't do it!!!" haha.
She said, "I'm freaking out just holding this thing." And the thing is, she gives shots all day to animals, she's a vet tech!!

Haha, so I said, "Good lord, give it to me...", and did it myself.... her response of course was, "If I didn't know you can't feel needles, I'd say you were a freak. Wait, I think I'll say that anyway." But that's Kelly for you. Haha.

That one I just take once a month...the rest on the other hand...Yeah...might as well call me Shooter. (Only, not really!)

I guess you are right, I am a natural. I generally just do whatever feels right and I have a hard time describing what I have done. I have a hard time putting it into words when someone is watching me play and asking questions about how I shoot shots. I can say that I was fortunate to have a teacher when I was younger that taught me proper fundamentals. I know things have changed over the years when it comes to my fundamentals, but a strong base to start with helped. If you learn that, it always gives you something to go back to.

You should be able to tell when something isn't right. If you are hitting your body or missing shots consistantly to one side of the pocket then you can tell that you are turning your wrist or arm. Or you could have someone else watch and try to tell you what is going wrong.
