High vs low tip height

A lower tip will generally mean that you get a harder hit with more feedback (unless the tip is rock hard, iin which case it might not feel much softer).
If your tip is too low, you risk damaging the ferrule.
A tall tip will generally give you a softer hit and a longer tip life.
I personally prefer the tip at about 2/3-1/2 of maximum possible height. It's a personal preference.

I prefer tips to be broken in a bit, but I prefer them a bit tall. I don't like when my tip gets down close to the ferrule.
I like a tallish tip, too. I usually play with a medium or a hard tip depending on the brand so I don't really feel like I need to cut down the tip to get the hit I want. Plus, I feel like the layered design of the tips are more likely when there are at least a few layers still.
I prefer them low, but no less than 1/8".
Taller tip for me. Also, no more layered tips, only LePro, Triangle, or Milkdud by pooldawg8 !!!

A tip is at it's best just before it is gone. I have an ivory ferule with a fiber pad. I have tried layered tips and have no use for them. Triangle worn down to the last little bit is my best tip. When I start to miscue it is time to change it.
I got away from the layered tips for a couple of years.... Then I tried one of Searings new Hard layered tip.
I think these are as good as any of the original moori quicks. Fantastic tip.
