I am thinking of buying a Hightower Deluxe or Mid size lathe. Does anyone have one that lives close to Orlando, Florida? I would like to come and look at it before I flip the cash.
Thanks

only buy it if it has a power feed using a screw powered by a dc motor and not the little motor with a little gear................

it's a great machine..........

Deluxe

Get the Deluxe, well worth the money !!

I agree, and its not a money issue, but I also set up for tourneys and leagues. Chris said that it had a six foot bed and was very heavy because of the taper bar. To order that, then get a 4' bed was an extra $400, just for the bed. He said he could make a deluxe with a 4' bed, but wouldn't have the taper bar. I have never really seen the lathe with all the optional equipment except in his pics, that's why I am hoping someone has it close to me, so I can see what I'm trying to buy. Hightower lives 7 1/2 hrs from me. Even if I go to his shop and purchase it. I have to get on a waiting list, then pay to have it shipped back. I own the"Porper mini lathe" and have out grown it. Trying to upgrade, was even thinking about purchasing the "Porper B Lathe", Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

I have a deluxe that I use as my primary repair lathe.
I also have a mid size with the large bore chuck, on a 6' bed that I use only for tournaments.
I wish I had the deluxe headstock on my tourney lathe, but I only use it a couple times a year so it would really be a waste of money at this time.
I don't use the deluxe for many procedures in building at all, I don't even have taper bars anymore.
Great lathe for repairs as I use it :)
