Hiow Do You replace Cushions

I have a 1923 Brunswick Balke Collender Monarch Table.
I am looking to put the best rubber, is Artemis the best?

I have seen them replaced by hand, by a local mechanic.
I noticed that the rubber was not even it was wavy.

Someone told me they used jigs in 1923 to make sure they were even across the whole rail.

The only person I would trust to do my rails by hand would be RKC.

How do you, install rubber cushion?

Thanks, Barney Calip.

Table

I'm sorry to say... But there are no cushions that are a direct fit to your rails, you will need to have the liners cut off and calibrated to accept k55 or k66 cushions regardless the brand name.

Those type of rails are a job for mark gregory.

The sad thing is that if you was to call brunswick and ask them the question your asking here, brunswick would tell you that you need to install k66 cushions on your table.... They do not mount properly and cause the geometry of the cushion to be off which will cause the cushions to break loose from being glued to the wood and really gets worse when that happens' You might as well stuff old socks in place of the cushions.
I will also add that a wood pool table rail is not perfectly straight in height, width or thickness...

There is a way to get the cushion on with out wigglies everywhere but not a DIY project or on a antuque table.

Brunswick changed the cushions several times over the years before todays brunswick super speed cushions.

Is replacing cushions a one trip job for a mechanic or two? I'm curious if the glue needs curing time overnight before putting the cloth on.

Thanks

Installing cushions I'd not the hard part, rebuilding the sub rails to accept the cushions correctly....that's the art.of knowing what you're doing....and there is the problem....only a few of us know how to do it right.

RKC is correct. Brunswick will dumb it down....don't listen to them. It is a little more involved. I don't want to pretend I know how to do this but I do know RKC so i'm okay.

I've seen it done with contact cement and no waiting overnight for drying or curing.

Oooohh, I don't know....what kind of pool table are you talking about replacing the cushions on....a Sears or Costco pool table? A Brunswick antique pool table? A snooker table? How about maybe a Brunswick 3C 10ft' but the customer wants P37 cushions that the rails were never designed to use? Your question is kind of blind in the sense that without some specifics yes, they may be able to be replaced at the location of the table, or no the rails are going to have to be worked on first, see you in a week.

Glen, I appreciate your knowledge and willingness to share it. I was asking about glue. But to be fair, if I had asked Einstein for the time, he might have had just as many questions for me.

Baring any other work needed to be performed, yes....the cushions should be done on location in 1-2 hours and be playable once the table is reassembled. The only reason someone would tell you otherwise is because they have no idea what they're doing.

Thanks. It was only a YouTube video that told me otherwise, which seemed silly given the quick-setting adhesives available today.

you can try these ideas and then call mark gregory or

you can save yourself time, aggravation and money by calling mark first

What am I missing? Glen already pointed out the slightly smaller playing area, which means nothing to me. But somehow the measurement below says that I'll save time, aggravation, AND MONEY by spending $1500 to cure what? It's not a broken measuring tape. It works. It's accurate. If I'm missing something, be very specific so I can finally be on board and whip out my wallet!

If you call brunswick they'll also point out they had a fire years ago and lost all their documentation. So then they'll tell you do the K66 cushion, but won't really offer much assistance after that.

I hate to say it, but you might be best to just leave them alone and recover the table and call it good.

I think you guys are answering the original poster who posted in 2014. I should have created a new thread. Sorry about that.

Don't worry about it Jeff, there's more than one reason rails get rebuilt. If you're happy with your Table, that's all that counts.
