Historic APA match last night

Gang, last night I had the pleasure of playing a man with the lowest APA member number that I know of, 00018.

I was told after the match, that he is the most senior APA member, by tenure... not age, of anyone alive. I haven't verified this or not, but he very well could be.

He told me stories of when the, pre-APA, Miller Lite league was playing over in Monroe, La, it was a fun night.

My understanding is allowing for the preceeding three digit LO number, the last five numbers have multiple duplicates around the country.

.. BTW, was this guy a SL7?

He's a 6, but from what I understand, hovers on the line beween a 6 & 7,

I live here in the NW and my APA number is 530 and my best friends number is 6. Yes, 6.

APA says they have 260,000 members but five digit numbers only allow for 100,000 numbers. So, there has to be duplication across the country with the preceeding three numbers being unique to the LO

I think that means that he was the 18th player in that area/franchise.
I was in a league here in Houston with a couple of players who were 0002 and 0008.

Yes every L.O. has a unique # to go with your player #

I once played a guy in our league whos number was 0003. He was a 5 and not really that good. Said he's played for 25+ years. and that was 10 years ago. Talked about when it was bucsh league. Our player #'s are in the mid-9000's now. Mine is 5475 and people look at that and go WHOOOAAAAA old number. I've played for 12-13 years.

I played in 1989 and it was called the Busch League (an appropriate name :lam:). Got fed up with it quit but started back in 2006. Gave them my old number and even showed them my last membership card. The LO said it didn't mean anything because he had no record of it. Was issued a new number. Stopped playing this year because of I just got tired of it.

It's pretty clear when you look at a full APA membership number that the first few numbers represents the zip code of the league operator whle the last several are the member's number. In my area, they've started recycling numbers so now there are several new members that have a lower number than mine whereas previously, I only knew of just one or two. My first year it was still the Busch League.

I did win, 5-4.

Well that clears it up.

In any regard, that old fart has been around for a long time.

Two kinds of players to watch out for when matching up.

1. The "old fart" some of them play pretty "sporty" or they'll wear you down with experience.

2. Young guys who wear caps and use a plain jane cue

That describes about 99% of the players. :lmao:

Oh we have quite a few of those "old farts" around here and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I love to get them started on telling stories, along with watching them "bring it" on the table.

This could be Travis Trotter's biological father.

APA #'s

I started in the APA back in the early 90's and my APA # was 00367. It's only valid within the LO territory. Had some really great times in the early days, but the league operator turned out to be an oger and the fun diminished.

I play for a local traveling league now with 30 bars in it (over 200 players). All the $ stays local and we have a Christmas Party and a huge clambake at the end with prize $ and trophies. And no handicaps to worry about! And it's call your pocket, thank God. Great league.

I have known a couple of players here in Md who say that they have been with the APA since it first started.

Didn't the APA start on the East Coast? In which case all of you guys from La etc. would be blowing smoke.
