It is currently -19 in West Des Moines with the wind chill and is expected to get down to -40 by tomorrow morning. Stay safe if you plan to play some pool...a $5-10 tournament might not be worth the risk of travel. Thank god I have a pool table in the basement to play on!

PS...DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CUES IN THE CAR WITH THIS TYPE OF WEATHER.

gonna be -20 tonight with the wind chill. It's so cold I can't get the game room above 63*...one of the drawbacks of that ceramic tile over concrete, the cold of it just sucks the warm right out of the room!!

I always recommend floor heat under tiles when I install them. Only way to go.

Best,
Mike

Well I am a cook who eats his own cooking. My Jensen and Ted Harris live in the car even in this subzero Oklahoma cold snap. We will see how well a JB Case does in that situation.

Might be worth a video, John -- perhaps using a thermometer to display the temp, before and after?

-Sean <-- just an idea

We're having an unusually cold winter, its not usually this bad. On a normal winter day, its not a problem getting it warmed up in there. I couldnt do the radiant heatpipes in the floor (I'd loved to have done it, believe me), it was an existing pad that I built on....so I'll just have to learn to live with it.

Days like this, I do like my dodge 4x4 dually diesel pickup though....6" of snow so far and the cold....Block heater is plugged in, so when I go out, I'll have warm air before I get to the end of the driveway!! :D

The weather is bad up North! Just for your info and others that may take on a great project like yours (outstanding!), small, thin electric cables can be run on top of your plywood or concrete floor before you lay your tile. A skim coat of mortar is needed over the top of the lines to establish a smooth floor to work over. This skim coat can also take the place of using a tile backer board with an adequate plywood underlayment. These heating cables are thermostatically controlled and can be turned off during the warmer months. C'mon, heat wave!

Best,
Mike

Minus 50 with the wind chill at the moment.

And my friend texted and asked if I wanted to go fishing today, and he was serious.

You have any idea what my answer was.

I spent 2 weeks up North in Nunavit for work a few years back, we happened to be there (Saniliak) when the natives held there annual ice fishing derby, where the winner won a brand new snow machine. My co-worker and I had the opportunity to go and witness the event, the problem was the location was about 3 kilometres off the island and the temp was pushing -40 less the wind, being a southerner as we were called I declined. :-)

We did eat fresh char that night though, those natives are a tough bunch.

Drinking/Football/Pool is how I am going to stay active and warm inside today...

Starting beer #1...gogogogo!
