Holy coldness batman...

Well so far the Jensen, the Schon Ltd, and the Ted Harris all survived the Oklahoma cold out in the car snug in their JB Case. Showed the cues to Kent Taylor and he concurred, no damage.

Well I went out to shovel the end of the driveway this morning at 6:30 am. I had already run the two stage monster snow blowing devil over it three times the day before. So the city plowed up a bunch of slushy soon turned into solid ice fun stuff for my breakfast. Mind you it was a balmy - 15 or so and the wind was blowing a good 25 - 35 mph. I had so many clothes on I could hardly move. Normally I might weigh 140 lbs. but this morning I am fairly confident I weighed close to 200!! So out I went with my old solid metal shovel made back in some bygone era of American history. It was the only thing I could break up the ice/snow mass that hindered me from the rest of the civilized world. After about 25 minutes or so I noticed my face was getting tingly and feeling oddly stiff, then my coordination was becoming slightly less than normal. So being of sound mind I said F--- This, it's good enough and went in for coffee with the wife. This cold is no joke folks, if you don't need to be out don't go! Take Care Everyone!

It's very cold here and even colder over at Lake Michigan'
Feels like -45 here with the windchill, for those that don't know what windchill is it's the factor at which the wind pulls the heat away from a heat source- your body.

govt agencies are delayed opening.
Atlanta is even COLDER.
and i can't get through to my Chicago/OH/NY reps....

thank God, we stay prepared (food, cigs, liquor - not necessarily in this order)

Crap, that sucks...we're at 8 degrees here, but at least we're used to this stuff at this time of year.

Good luck.

I am so glad to have a fairly new furnace, installed 2 years ago. It's 9 degrees right now in D.C. Wind was HOWLING last night!

We have plenty of food and cable TV and power for the computer. What more could you ask for!

Keith quit cigarettes January 1st, and so far, so good. :clapping::clapping::clapping:

This is the year of health for us. We were going to start walking every morning together, but it's colder than the breast of a sorcerer in D.C. Our dog Mickey only goes outside for brief moments only to relieve himself, and then he flies back inside for the warmth. :embarrassed2:

Dang itz c-c-c-cold !!

Well, it's usually cold in up-state NY, but this is b-a-d. It's 3 deg right now at my house . Wind-chill is - 31 deg at its howling. Went out to start my car and the doors are frozen !! :frown:

Inside ,... comfortably numb, playing 10 Ball ghost. fifties music on the stereo,
brings back memories ,.....

P.S.
I think the ghost spiked my wine .:grin-square:

Global warming my @ss lol... on a positive note it went from -30 below to positive 15 today. We are in a heatwave!

Minus 50 with the wind chill at the moment.

And my friend texted and asked if I wanted to go fishing today, and he was serious.

You have any idea what my answer was.

My neighbour was out the other day and caught a bunch of perch ... it was only a gazzillion below ... maybe you southerners from Regina are a bit soft ;)

Happy New Year my friend, all the best to you and Sheila.

My fishin Bud is half crazy. he runs from hole to hole, with his sonar and doesn't bother to wear anything on his hands half the time.

He hates filleting Jack because they're big slime balls. Even when I can't make it out with him, he will call and say, "I left a bucket of Jack on your back step".

Sometimes that is the best way to fish.

January is usually a nasty month to fish anyway. Feb and late ice in March are more pleasant.

Finally, I bought a heat strip and insulation for the water pipe. So far so good. Up until last year, I have not had a problem and its been approx 25 years in the same house.

We are probably a little softer due to the fact that we are so much closer to the equator than you guys.

WOO-HOO!!!! high @ NC today was 14! with the windchill, it's now UP to

1 DEGREE

yay. pipes are frozen.

It was cold enough today for the trashmen to NOT show up. The mailman did and brought me some useless coupons!! I did venture out in my pick em up truck and it wouldn't shift out of first for about two miles. So I finally made it to the bar that has a couple pool tables and they were closed... So I drove back home, the good news was the truck tranny did start to shift eventually!!! Feel like a prisoner of the wicked winter and now know why they drink so much in Alaska. There is nothing else to do!

lol ... in reality the weather in Regina is a little worse than here ... you guys get more blizzards blowing through from what I see.

WRT to ice fishing, some of our southern friends may not know that one of these is very handy out on the ice :

It's funny to drive by a frozen lake and see all the huts out in the ice  When the lakes get really frozen then you'll see the half-trucks parked beside the shacks

"don't leave your game on the practice table".

It is currently -19 in West Des Moines with the wind chill and is expected to get down to -40 by tomorrow morning. Stay safe if you plan to play some pool...a $5-10 tournament might not be worth the risk of travel. Thank god I have a pool table in the basement to play on!

PS...DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CUES IN THE CAR WITH THIS TYPE OF WEATHER.

This free tip is brought to you by spimp, providing Alyssa/Eliza avatars since 2008.

I'm "very originally" from Keosauqua Iowa......Don McCoy was a "cold blooded" killer on the pool table and I saw him many times in my teens.

I played him in Sioux Falls SD at a big tournament years ago and before our match I was practicing and ran 5 racks in a row. Don saw me run them and said sullenly "don't leave your game on the practice table".......I'll never forget that, it was a classic line. :D

Fishless, the Inuits are a tough bunch.

I had a group of them from the RCMP Academy, similar temps and they had on nylon wind breakers.

But, they do wear seal skin clothing. I imagine that is pretty warm.

Hunting in the Fall, sometimes a person has to do their biz out doors, thats not bad.
I can't imagine pulling down your drawers in minus 50.

No, I didn't go fishing, I have my limits. Instead, I thawed a frozen water pipe.

Just realized that I don't have any beer so will have to venture out anyway.

The good part is, a can in the snow bank is cold in approx 10 minutes.

The truck will be warming up for an hr tho.

this is true.. that's something a Canadian would say!

Thats pretty amazing Bud. Attack of the Ice Crystals. I couldn't tell if that was a lake in the distance. Like late ice break up or something.

It would be interesting to know of what phenomenon would cause that to happen.

Looked like a few tons of ice pushing against the house and they were worried about moving their patio furniture out of harms way.
