Looking at the 64-player roster on the single-elimination chart of the WPC, I think all of the American players are still in this, with the exception of Charlie Williams. :)

In the first round, Johnny Archer will play Sweden's Marcus Chamat, and Earl Strickland will face Canada's Alain Martel. Both of these matches will be hard fought.

However, if Johnny beats Marcus and Earl defeats Alain, Round 2 will be two Americans in the same round, The Scorpion vs. The Pearl.

To me, it looks like Rodney Morris has the best spot on the chart!

Well, only time will tell...

Giving the chart a second glance, if Kansas-born Gabe Owen and the Pride of Texas Jeremy Jones win their first rounds, these two good friends will also have to do battle in Round 2.

WPC Chart: http://worldpoolchampionship.com/results_and_tables2.asp

Out of 64 players, the Americans have 9 of their finest still in the running! Now, that is good news, and this enhances the Americans' chances! :p

Schmidt is out as well.

So, out of 11 American competitors, the United States still has 9 in the running.

Math is not one of my best attributes, but what percentage is that, 9 out of 64? I'm kind of liking how the U.S. is looking at this time! :)

Celtic, how in the world could I have forgotten John Schmidt?!

Picture of Troy Frank and John Schmidt, two of the nicest American players in the land. Pool players always seem to smile broadly when they hear the words, "Say Cheese." :D

The eyes are the first thing to go after you hit the half-century mark, and then the memory!

Shawn Putnam has been booking winners as of late here in the States, and he is one player that I truly was hoping would do well. He made the cover of InsidePOOL magazine, the equivalent to a rock star being on the cover of Rolling Stone, and is most definitely on top of his game. There is always next year for Shawn. :)

I hope Shawn is enjoying his WPC experience. I imagine it must be fantastic for every pool player in attendance. What a great venue!

Thats because they usually have all of it.... Schmidt and that smile have sent many a person home broke. I am choked he did not make it to the knockout, I was hoping for him over all other American players. I shed no tears for Charlie, I wonder if it will knock down that ego abit? I doubt it.

With six American US Open champions still in (Archer, Deuel, Jones, Morris, Strickland and Owen), you'd think we're well placed for a good showing in the knockout stages. I know I'll be keeping close tabs on the brackets.

Great thread title!

I can't wait for John to get back to the States so I can ask him about this experience. This is his first trip over there to Taipei and he'll be headed to Korea next week. John was in Group 10 with Roschkowsky and Gandy Valle. John 3-4 in his matches, it just wasn't enough points to get into thr final 64. His loss to Ceri Worts (New Zealand) (3-5) surprised me. As John gains more international experience he will become more dangerous.

get in there............. chamat 10-5

Cheers to The Little Napoleon from Sweden, but as a red-blooded American, I'm definitely rooting for the Scorpion!

Whoever wins this match plays the winner of Earl Strickland and Alain Martel!

Marcus Chamat, a formidable opponent in any venue!

It really is like a nightmare...

...and it's getting worse. The Americans are dropping like flies. :(

With the demise of Archer, Strickland, Bryant, Basavich, and Mike Davis in the Final 64, the United States' only hope lies with Rodney Morris, Gabe Owen, Corey Deuel, and Jeremy Jones! :)

Rodney Morris is in a good bracket, but all four of these gentlemen had better put it in turbo charge. :p

Deuel does not really need a good bracket. If he is there to play he is not an underdog to anyone in the event really. At this point he has as good a chance to win the whole thing as anyone. It would actually be pretty cool if he did and maybe act as a little boost to pool in America.

Agreed! Corey Deuel most definitely can get there! :)
