I'm just wondering what the general consensus is on AZB about the paypal fees. Obviously most people try to negotiate price when things are for sale in this farmer's market forum. I see 'Paypal add x%' quite often, but quite often that percentage is inflated past paypal dues anyways.

Do you think the seller should pay the fees, buyer pay the fees, and should the fees be inflated?

So AZ, how do you feel about paypal fees?

Just in case you guys were wondering and need to be informed, actual paypal fees are as follows:

Paypal FAQ said:
Purchase payments received (monthly) Fee per transaction
$0.00 USD - $3,000.00 USD 2.9% + $0.30 USD
$3,000.01 USD - $10,000.00 USD 2.5% + $0.30 USD
$10,000.01 USD - $100,000.00 USD 2.2% + $0.30 USD
> $100,000.00 USD 1.9% + $0.30 USD

From Here: Paypal Fees

So the majority of cue sales fees here would really be 2.9%+ $.30.

Poll is private to protect voters, but please post your opinion on the inflated fees.

of course I clicked the wrong choice! lol

I usually pass the fees on to the buyer, but have covered them myself in certain situations, so it depends.

the buyer pays for paypal because everyone knows the sellers, even with there fees, put's in a little extra for expenses for the percentage taken for them....

I didn't vote, I don't think it's a yes or no.
I like to do, and prefer to expect to deal with, this...
1. Decide on a fair price, and what you'd be willing to accept as a fair "bottom end",
2. Adjust up for "reasonable" (not gouging) wiggle room - including consideration of PayPal fees,
3. Add anticipated shipping fees... And I prefer USPS Express. Get it done.
4. Post for sale - shipped Exprress conus w/ no fees.
Eliminate the variables...

^ agreed with above.

No point in saying "+X% Paypal." First off that's technically illegal as it's in Paypal's TOS.

Just adjust your price accordingly to reflect "Shipping & Handling" Fees.

I personally just charge a little extra to have that wiggle room but charge the amount paid for actual shipping. Paypal usually I'm for splitting~

And as mentioned, Paypal has their own devious ways to prevent one from doing direct transfers so you HAVE to get charged for fees. That's IMHO from my own experiences.

I agree the opinions from upstsairs, if papal provide double secure stage, I have no problem with fees.

Personally, reduce the fees is better idea. lol

I think the major problem is several people salling terrible goods or using unreal photos.

cheers

I think it should just be a set price when you buy something. I shouldnt have to calculate 4% of my purchase price. $500 shipped means $500 shipped.

Well paypal is a business providing a service, so I feel its entitled to cover its expenses. It has recovered full amounts of money when I've been wronged both as a seller and a buyer (If you think the billiards market is brutal, try automotive parts...). Its worked well for me.

Adjusting your shipping and handling fees seems like a way to milk more from a buyer. Say you are buying a cue for $1500 shipped (implying the seller is shipping the cue out of the $1500 for the cue) and are charged 4% for Paypal. You pay $1560 to the seller, Paypal will only charge a fee of $45.54. The seller receives $1514.46 for the cue. What should happen to the extra $14.46 in question paid for the cue? Should it be put towards the shipping? Should the seller ship it as he normally would and just pocket the extra money? That could be the difference between a 5-9 day shipping or 2-3 day priority shipping, insurance, tracking numbers, better packing materials, etc.

Or the seller doesn't want to deal and just inflates his price to $1600.

It doesn't matter how you state it, all fees are passed on to the buyer. Although a seller may not state it, he has the cost of shipping, paypal, credit card, insurance and any other fees included in the price of the cue. Often, the buyer can save a few bucks by negotiating another method of payment, such as money order, etc, but the fees go with the purchase.

I didnt vote

It depends on the item and how much I make...If I am making a lot on a transaction, I include the fees, If the buyer wishes to negotiate, then they pay the fees...just glad I do not buy and sell much anymore!

Paypal provides an invaluable service to folks trading on the internet. They (Paypal) have done a superb job making their services available and easy to use for both buyer and seller.

Is 3% exhobatant?? I don't know. It is certainly more than typical credit card fees charged to merchants, but hey .... I don't need to establish a merchant account to use it.

If the seller wants to protect himself, especially on low cost trades, simply publish a 3% premium for Paypal sales.

The buyer isn't charged by PayPal - only the seller...
If you pay $1500 for a cue thru PayPal, that's what it costs you. The seller receives that $1500 MINUS a x% charge.

...and, yes... I'm satisfied to pay PayPal a fee for the service they provide. It makes the transaction rather seamless, and if I were to sell someone a cue, do you think they would always want to wait till I receive the money order, etc, before I ship? Should we always trust having the money & goods pass each other in transit? Not for me.
I pay you fast - you ship it fast. Period.

i dunno why no one seems to do this, but if u pay by echeck the maximum fee they charge per transaction regardless of how much money is transferred is 5 dollars. sure u have to wait 3 or 4 business days but who cares, just buy it 3 or 4 days earlier lol. plus it's still eligible for seller protection if u pay by echeck.

The buyer isn't charged by paypal, sorry if it was read that way. Near every add paypal is mentioned, the seller usually says 'add x% to cover the paypal fees' meaning the buyer pays, in this example $1560 for the $1500 purchase.

paypal is often offered as an option for payment. i also accept western union check or money order. let you loose 1 money order and take months to get paid back. youll gladly pay 3.5% everytime. often its the fastest and easest way. people are impatient buying and selling. i can tell you from experience just saying ill take ity is not good enough. often times a buyer will back out for whatever reason. so for me my cues arent sold until i recieve payment. first one wins. for this paypal is the best just one click away

been on both sides of this one. I believe buyer should pay (actual fees, not inflated) unless payenemy is the only means offered by seller. I personally have had too many bad experiences with those bums as both a buyer and seller and will NEVER use their sh1tbox services again. I have already had to take a pass on many items because it was the only form of payment offered. Not allowing me to have my own money on several occasions was the last straw!

PayPal allows the buyer to specify who pays the fee. If the seller wants the buyer to pick up the PayPal fees, he should just require that, rather than adding some arbitrary percentage to the price.
