I just picked up this Hoppe cue and I noticed that on one of the points, one veneer is black. Does anyone know why this is? I hope the photos are good enough.

Any input would be helpful.

Thanks,

Mike

I think its not a veneer its a black pen

Whoever refinished the cue drew the veneer on with a technical pen and was color blind. I wish I were joking. If you look closely the point doesn't come to a sharp edge either- it's been removed from the groove - more evidence of an obvious repair.

Chris

Ps. I am truly sorry to say this. I know how it feels. You can have it fixed back closer to what it's supposed to look like but it will never be 100% correct.

YIKES!! Thanks for the input. I thought it looked like a pen or something. But, I needed some expert opinions.
Well I guess this was the risk that I took. I grabbed it off e-bay. I have $450 into it. Is it worth that much?

I will consider this an e-bay lesson learned. Looks like my son has a NEW player!

Thanks again.

---Mic the cue out and see what the dimensions are. If the joint and butt are over large you could send it to a builder to strip the finish off of it and see whats going on. You might get lucky. I wouldnt give up on the cue yet.

Just an update on the cue. I had Scott at Proficient build a new shaft for it with a black ferrule. The cue hits great, Scott did an excellent job.

My son loves it...........................so all worked out well.
