How About Some Feedback

Hello,

I'm the infamous R Givens who writes for Pool & Billiard Magazine.

I did quite a few interviews with top players for the magazine, but I never got any response from readers.

Freddy "the Beard" Bentivegna just posted an interview I did with Jim Mataya, I'd like your opinion of what you like and don't like about it since I still do an occasional interview. Particularly any questions you would have asked.

PRETTY BOY FLOYD SHOOTS FROM THE HIP
An interview with Jim Mataya by R Givens ? 1991

I like it,very nice work and Jimmy is a character,i love when he does commentary. He is right about alot of stuff in that article.

Well done. I enjoyed reading it. You are a rare breed indeed for writing about some of the legendary players from yesteryear who got very little mention by the mainstream pool print media. I applaud you for creating a record.

Most of these players are only remembered via word of mouth. You are a pool savior. Thank the good Lord, there's writers like you on the planet. :)

Road warriors like Jimmy Mataya make up the very fabric of American pool. It's not all about Mosconi, Crane, Sigel, and Varner.

I love your work, and I am a big fan, always have been! :p

Your interview was good and brought back lots of memories. Freddy's story was great as well.

I tried to make a comment in the space. What's this about a google acct.?
Welcome to the 21st century Debbie??

great read. Funny that you change the names in the article and what Jim Mataya said is just as true today as in 1991.

I loved it. This was my favorite quote:

I'd like to see how good the golfers played if they didn't get paid for losing. There's no pressure if you've got to make a putt to win $200,000 and if you miss you get $120,000. Hell, you call that pressure. Get up there when you've got to shoot a shot nine feet rail to rail and you get nothing if you miss. that's pressure.

Robin,
I sent an email to Ms Stauch years ago asking you to do an interview with either Shannon Daulton or Nick Varner. I still have the copy of her nice response where she said she would pass this all on to you. My original message to her was filled with all kinds of nice comments about the interviews.

I remember the Mataya, Rodney Morris & Jimmy Wetch interviews. When you say "quite a few", that's all I can recall. And it seems like it's been several years since the last one.

Any plans to continue with this & make it a monthly project?

Thank you for the in-depth interviews you've already done. Here's looking forward to many more.

Just messing with you, the interview was really interesting. It's always intriguing to hear the words of those who work to get to the top of the pool world, even though they'll never be appreciated the way people who are great at other things like golf or basketball are appreciated.

Rogoff is up next

Randi did an interview with Bunny Rogoff (Pots and Pans) some years back I am going to post that on the site shortly along with a audio CD Bunny himself recorded relating his life and antics.

Well, perhaps you Andrew know more than I, but the only thing I can see is that he needs someone to proofread his articles. Other than that, nice piece.

Now, that will be a read. Not that the OP's article wasn't good, I like Mataya.

Great interview!

I only post a response per your request. I do not intend to disparage your article. I love this stuff! From my chair, I see your mag. and readership as VERY knowledgable about all things pool related. The interview seemed to be aimed a little more at a layperson and maybe not as much at the pool enthusiast that I imagine your readership to be. If your goal was to elicit a 'response' from the readership, then maybe a more in depth interview into the mind, mindset, thought processes, etc. I think it all depends on who your audience is, who your TARGETED audience is and what your "response" goals are. That article was a great one for a layperson such as myself, and great for expanding our game to the masses IMHO, but maybe your readers want that info. that gets them deeper into the head of your interviewee. Just my .02....hope it helps.
