how are ya'll doing in league ?

Then the icing on the cake was when he made a shot on his last ball and hit my ball with his hand while stroking and my ball moved a couple inches locking uo the 8. He wanted to move it back and i told him to leave it there. ...only because he was being such an ass. That really set him off.
Sorry to hear of all the drama. Makes playing pool well a hard thing to do.

About the quote: Thinking you were wrong in the case of the accidently moved ball, I looked the rule up in the Team Manual, where the definition (as is many in the APA rule-set) is a grey area.

It states that if the accidental movement occurs during a shot, all balls accidentally moved MUST be replaced by the opponent after the shot is over and all balls have stopped rolling (page 49, Official Team Manual).

Key word of the rule: "MUST"

That said, although it was your call as to the placement of that moved ball, you made ZERO effort to "replace" the ball. I can understand him being upset about it. If you had done that to me, I would have quoted you the rule and had you get up and replace the ball. And if you had replaced it in a way that left me no shot after it was clear that there was an open 8-ball previously, I would have called you out for poor sportsmanship.

At the very least you should/could have gotten up and moved that ball somewhere close to where it originally was. In the "spirit of the rules" you owed that to your opponent. You should never try to win a game by some ticky-tack technicality. IMHO, it was bad sportsmanship on your part, and in the past I have never doubted anything on your part. You have always been a stand-up guy, but I just cannot side with you on this one.

Again, IMHO, what you should have done is gotten up and replaced the ball to as near the spot as you thought it was occupying and let the game continue and let the chips fall where they may. Me personally, I could not be happy with a win if that's the way it went down. YMMV

Please take no offense to this post. I still believe in you and your ethics, just not so much in this case.

Last night of the season for me. I'm going to take it as serious as I can while still having a great time.

I've been playing well lately, VERY much caught a gear, now just trying to ride that wave to the next plateau and stepping stone to excellence. Have a tournament at the end of the month that I hope to place well in.

They recently changed that rule. I've been in APA for almost 3 years and I know for a fact it was an option at one point as I've seen it happen dozens of times. I don't remember when they changed it, maybe 1.5-2 years ago? Honestly, most people still play by the old rule.

My Tuesday League (Gold Coast) has been running well. There are no player levels and you play one win or lose game in each match. It is also a bar hopper so you play on a variety of table sizes and conditions. It makes for a fun challenge. It was very satisfying to win against a player that was much more skilled than I last week.

I was on an APA team until recently, but it didn't really recover from covid. Our team is switching to TAP and will be starting tonight.

I had just gone onto the National website and read the rule straight out of the Team Manual before I posted. Maybe they haven't updated the site in the last 1.5 years or so? IDK

I still think it's a sh*tty way to win a game.

The rule you posted is correct, it USED to be an option but they changed it to mandatory.

I appreciate your reply maniac and as the saying goes. .2 wrongs dont make a right.

For the sake of not making the post linger than it was i left things out that led to this occurance.

I am not trying to make an excuse for poor sportsmanship which i agree with you that i did display.

One is that i was not aware that it "must " be replaced.

Two was his actions before this incident occored with him moving my ball.

This is exactly what transpired during the match and will perhaps explain my actions.

He won the first rack. I won the second rack. Well i guess i need to explain the normal procedure here about the loser racking. Its open valley tables and the side door is left to retrieve the balls out. For the sake if sportsmanship the winner retrieves the balls out of the side and rolls them down to the loser who is waiting with the triangle to rack them.

Upon my retrieving the balls after winning the second rack he is visibly irritated about losing and slamming the balls in the triangle and muttering something ....whuch i could not understand because he had the mask on and i am hard of hearing to boot. I just ignored him.

I won the third rack and when i started to retrieve the balls he numped in frint of me and said he will get them himself and started slamming balls around in the triangle again. He is obviously very upset about losing another rack.

The next rack i break and run a few balls and upon immediately knowing i hit it wrong i walked i turned around and walked away from the table. He then walks to the table and yells at me asking if i am going to call a foul on myself. I asked what foul ? He said nothing touched a rail. I said i didnt see it .

He starts yelling about i aint a 5 and i dint nedd to win like that. I asked if any one else saw a foul ? No one spoke up. So i said i am not going to call a foul i nor anyone else saw. So he was all redfaced at this point and still muttering crap i could not understand.

Soni won that rack. Now i am on the hill and again i tried to retrieve the balls and he said to just get out of the way and started slamming balls in the triangle again. Itbwas real obvious he was highly pissed about losing racks to me and i tried to difuse the situation as he was racking thst i honestly did not see a fould and no one else saw it either and if any one had said i fouled i would have gladly given ball in hand as i didmt need to cheat to win.

Welm that really pissed him off and he kumped up and got in my face and started yelling again i was not a 5 and a cheater also. His wife numped up and got in front of him before it escaleted any farther.

The last rack is when he accidently moved my ball and i decided since he was being such an ass i said to leave the ball where it was.

Yea it was poor sportsmanship on my part and the wrong call as you brought up but i decided to show him i could be an ass also.

Of course he refused to shake my hand after losing and the more i think about it he could have been on something or drinking ...i dont know but other people told me later that he is a real sore loser.

Sorry about the typos above . some times i forget to spellcheck with this little keypad on my phone. Hope yall guys can make out the gibberish lol.

FTR, lorider....we're all good. Every once in a while there comes a time when an a$$hole needs to be put in his place. That sounded like one of those times. In my lengthy post above, I was merely relaying how I would have handled the situation had I of moved one of your balls while shooting. Of course....in a situation like that it's good to be up-to-date on the rules. ;)

Nothing I hate worse than a sore loser along with fact that it's an amateur league to boot. I can never understand the seriousness many competitors show for such an unimportant result. Again....YMMV

Good luck and continued good shooting! (y)

This brings back memories of why i quit league pool and never looked back. It was fun for a while but a few episodes like this ruined it quick.

Well i have been playing for heck i forget how many tears but last time i looked i had over 2000 matches in apa alone. Thats not counting matches in napa...bcapl...usapl...tap and a couple money leagues.

Over 90 percent of my apa matches have been pretty uneventful. The same could be said for the other leagues....except for the money leagues....people tend to get real serious when playing for money and i found it was quite often they got too serious and thats why i quit those leagues several years ago.

I really dont know what this guys problem was but i got tired of his attitude towards the end. I forgot to mention as i went straight from the incedent over the supposed foul to the incident over my moved ball but he won the rack in between those 2 incidents and acted halfway normal i guess you could say.

I still can't shoot worth $hit. End of newsbreak.
(got 3-oh'd again tonight...really makes me wanna stop playing. I won't. But its the feeling I get.)

From my experience, you just have to keep going and shoot your way out of it. I understand that it isn't fun to go out to the hall/bar and lose on a regular basis, but you just gotta be patient.

I had to do just that a couple years ago.

Hang in there, dub!

Covid killed our in house 8 ball league so I just started playing in a UPA 10 ball league.

My first match was against a guy I had played a few times in some gambling matches. I thought we matched up fairly even but when they called the match I found out it was a 6/3 race. I had to go to 6.

He was on the hill before I got out of the gate . I played him very conservatively and ended up winning squeaking out a 6-2 win.

I know this to be true. Its tougher when I have to work just to get to pool, and then have it end up so crappy... I'll get over it. Just venting...

Played a bit better tonight...still lost, but didn't get my ass kicked for a change 😉

Lost 12-8. The girl I played has been beating me soundly the last few times, so this was progress. She was way ahead in this match too, but I at least got it back to have a chance at winning.

Like I said, progress.

Nice going dub. We are off all week due to the weather. I just got a text we are scheduled to start back up sunday.

I drove to work wendesday. Not doimg it agajn until the roads clear up. The road conditions are bad enough....having to fade the idiots driving like its summertime is what makes it dangerous.
