how are ya'll doing in league ?

They have those?
:D

LOL! I wish!

The registration was supposed to start at 11am.
It started at noon.
The tournament was supposed to start around noon.
It was 2:30pm before the calcutta started.
It was close to 3:30pm when I started my first match.
It was close to 5:30pm when I started my second match.
My third match was immediately after my second match.
I arrived for registration at 11am.
I left after my third match at almost 8pm.
The live stream was still on at midnight with a good bit of matches still to be played.

What local tournament with 30 players and 8 tables takes 12+ hours?

I played in my first Open tournament on Saturday. It was part of the Bayou State 9-ball Tour. There were a lot of good players there: Richie Richeson, Tre Baker, Little John Macias, and a good bit more. I won my first match against a guy named Erin or Aaron (I think he was a local player, I've never seen him before). It was race to 7, alt breaks, 9 doesn't count in the lower two. I beat him 7-3. The tournament started way too late, because they wanted to wait for Lil John and Joey A to show up. After my first match, I waited a good 1.5-2 hours to play again. They matched me up with a local guy Jacob Pennison. He won the flip and broke first. I could have won the first game and got out the next few, but I dogged so many shots it was pitiful. Got into the losers bracket and played my third match against a guy from Mississippi. Ended up hill/hill and his break. He broke bad and left me funny. I played a lock up safety on the 3 and knew I could win it. I got BIH, ran it out and dogged the 9... :(

Lots of room for improvement and it was a good experience. I'm not sure if I like the tournament scene. I need to get in a tournament that is run properly and on time to change my mind.

It was definitely great practice for our 9-ball matches on Wednesdays. Our LO would probably do the same thing if he found out I played in it and did as well as I did for an APA 5 lol.

Dogging the winning 9 musta been a complete bummer. :embarrassed2: Sorry to hear that but likely an invaluable experience. Have thought about doing the same.

Right before the final game, my girlfriend texted me saying she's almost off work and wanted to go eat somewhere. I was thinking about her getting pissed, if I won and stayed later, the whole time :o

Come on 2-pack Dave....don't lose your nickname now!!

Nobody could run a pack with the alternate breaks! lol

Haha...while I definitely 125% agree with that...you still gotta make that 9 ball hence my pic to give ya grief. I won't remove the nickname quite yet though...hit the tables this week for some practice (I know I need to).

I will say though, while not a pack, I did string together a few break and runs. My last match wouldn't have gone hill/hill if the kid wouldn't have made the 9 in the side twice. I could run balls better than he did, but a two game lead off the start killed me.

Can't complain, he was pretty pissed when I pulled out my new jump cue and made the jump bank into the side pocket

Now if only the APA would let us use jump cues... :o

Bummer. Its difficult enough to focus without worrying about that sorta stuff. Is she generally supportive of you playing pool? My GF comes to my league matches every couple weeks to support me and the team. Maybe next time you may need to put your phone away until you're done.

She loves that I play pool and I'm not out at strip clubs or being an alcoholic. We have so many friends that turned into alcholics, bums, or drug addicts. She definitely knows I take it serious and I'm not bring my cues with me just to go sit at the bar and drink.

She's been to one league match about a year ago, when I played in an in-house league. She was very supportive, calmed me down throughout the match, and even cheered for me when I won. Came back to win 5-4 from being down 4-0!

As far as the phone goes, it was on silent. I just so happened to check it, because I knew it was getting late. For my first "big" tournament, I was expecting it to be quicker and I was expecting to lose my first two matches and be done.

Good deal. Yeah, sounds like you played great considering the lack or organization. Good luck in the next one.

called my lo today after i got off work. we talked for about a half hour.

made me feel better when he said he did not think i was trying to pull something. he agreed to lower the guy who went from a 3 to a 5 back down to a 3. other guy who he raised to a 6 he still has reservations about . we will talk some more tom night when we meet. we play on the same team on tue nights.

basically it all boils down to complaints about the 4 going back to last year when he played on another team. my 3 was giulty by association being they both playerd on that team.

guess i will see how it works out. again it makes me feel better him saying he did not think i was guilty of having any one sandbag.

That's pretty crappy of the LO. "I heard" so and so plays pretty good, let's bump him 3 levels up!

Not so much league news, but is related to the above topic.

Thanks, Matt! I've been playing fairly well, so I hope to do okay. There are almost 200 in the A division, 10 or so will get moved up to Master. Sorta hoping I make it, but sorta hoping I don't! :D Trying to save up cash for a deposit on a couple of Diamond boxes for my hangout, so not sure how much I'll have for action or maybe I'll need to be more careful. Also playing with a decent team in the open team division, so there should be a few bucks more.

I hear Lenny's doing the streaming as well. Maybe he can find some action, if he's got time. There's always something going on after the matches finish for the night. A side room with 6 or 8 tables is kept open 24/7. Last year I spent too much time there and felt a bit worn out by the end of the tournament.
Come and introduce yourself, I always like meeting people from AZ.

you n me both! You coming to the big tournament at Diamonds in a few weeks?

I'm planning on it. I'll probably be spectating, with my work schedule I can't make it out early enough to get in it. There's a barbox 9 ball tournament happening this Saturday somewhere near Denham Springs. A friend and I are going to go check it out.

Yeah but moving the 3 for reason of guilt by association??? That's just wrong. You should ask him to watch him play. He shouldn't take what handicap changes do to a team so lightly.

Yea, that's messed up big time.

We actually have a decent LO, other than him being lazy about updating online stats and getting patches out to everyone. The one time someone filed a complaint, against me, saying I was sandbagging, he personally came out and watched me play my match. He agreed I should stay as a SL5 in 8-ball. He never came to a 9-ball match :grin-square:
