how are ya'll doing in league ?

I'm planning on it. I'll probably be spectating, with my work schedule I can't make it out early enough to get in it. There's a barbox 9 ball tournament happening this Saturday somewhere near Denham Springs. A friend and I are going to go check it out.

Yea I think in Livingston or something like that. I heard about it.

Played my APA 8-ball match last night. Did I ever mention how much I hate bar table 8-ball?

My friend and I were on the practice table battling it out.
He broke and ran a 2 pack, broke dry the next game, I ran out, then I broke and ran. 4 games, no innings
Get to the match table, I couldn't get out to save my life. I'm an SL5. They dumped a SL3 on me, making it a 4-2 race.
I won 4-1 and they get a point, because he was technically on the hill... :speechless:

I had around 20-25 innings in 5 games and I played something like 12 safeties.

I beat an SL 3 in 8-ball last night, 4-1. Nothing special, shouldn't have let him get the one point, but I botched a safety, and he ran the three balls left. They weren't gimmies, so I give him credit. The SL7 on my team said he wouldn't have believed that guy could have run those three balls in a thousand years... Still, had I not botched the safety, it wouldn't have been an issue.

No league for me tonight; I have to go out of town for work. It's only an overnight trip so of course it has to overlap the one night I play league.

The silver lining is that I heard from my back-up guy and he is able to play. So at least we won't have to forfeit a match.

Dallas Master BCA 8-Ball League. We are exactly at the half way point. After 13 weeks, I am in second place out of 105 players. Very pleased so far. I need to keep it going for this up coming second half. My over all record at this point is 44-21

Bit your tongue 2-pack Dave...8 ball is awesome!!! Yeah for the new scoring I am not so sure on that yet if I like it or not. I don't pay a lot of attention to the points side of things (at least not yet)...I focus more on trying to win all my 8 ball matches and lose 75% of my 9 ball matches lol. I also help with coaching on our team.

Drives me nuts. I have yet to play a SL3. Mostly 5s, 6s and 7s.

We won our APA 8ball match last night 8-5. I played a SL5 who was 1st in Top Gun standings with a pompous ego to match. Now we will be tied for 1st place. :D I beat him 5-2 but I was up 4-0 when I dogged my last ball in the fifth rack with easy shape on the 8ball. Should've been my second 5-0 shutout in consecutive weeks but honestly I played like crap. Missed quite a few shots. Luckily he wasn't very good and didn't play much defense when he should have. I'll take it though. After dropping my first two matches this session I have won 7 straight. :)

I'm not usually the person to make a big deal of sandbagging, because it happens all the time. However, last night I wanted to choke the guy I played. Never, have I been so annoyed in my life.

The other team put up their SL4 (whom I was told just got bumped from a 3 to a 4). My team decided to put me up, figuring it would be an easy win, because they know this guy can't play... He breaks the first game dry. The 1/4 and 3/5 were both locked up parallel with the table. I tried to draw off the one and bump the 9 in. The 9 rattled in the pocket, but I left no shot on the one. He kicked and got safe (He's a SL4, so I took it as a lucky roll). I kicked and sold out. He ran out the rack and dogged the 9. I made the 9, broke the second game and ran out to the 9 and then I dogged it... So, this is where I started getting annoyed. He's a SL4 in 9-ball and he then proceeds to break and run 2 racks... He finally broke dry when he needed one ball. I played a simple safety and left him tied up behind a cluster. I figure, I can get BIH, run out the rack and start working my way back with safes, but nooooooo he makes the most improbable kick shot off the edge of the side pocket and fires the one in the corner at 1000mph. So he kicked/safe about 3 times, ran out a rack, broke and ran twice, and kicked in a near impossible shot. What SL4 does that? I'm seeing why people hate the APA. I went to shake his hand and said "Wow, well you sure aren't a four. You'll bump up quick." He replied, "*hahaha* No I won't... I just got lucky." Then his wife and a woman on my team start *****ing at me saying I'm not being a good sport. Give me a break...

That's complete bull****. I'd be pissed too. Hope you circled his name on your scoresheet. I would have.

I told our captain and the guy on our team taking score and they said that it was a fluke and not to worry about it. I'm sorry, but a fluke is hitting the 9 ball bad and it rolling 3 rails into the side. A fluke is not a SL4 getting out of jam up safeties and running a 2 pack.

Yeah, I don't know many 6's that can run two racks. Let alone a 4. Its surprising your own teammates didn't think it was a big deal. You have every right to be pissed.

Beats me, but I chewed out the captain for all the BS. We were ahead of 2nd place by 44 points. After losing 19-1. We were only ahead by 26 points. Then our SL5 lost to their SL6, 12-8. That put us at a 22 point lead. Our SL3 started the match against their SL3 right before I left for the night. I was in a pissy mood and had already been in a bum mood when I showed up. I can only hope we won the next three matches and stay ahead in the points.

I had a funny night last night. Practicing by myself and a drunk guy asked to play. I am always hesitant to play drunk people whom I don't know. So we start playing 8 ball and I win probably 5 in a row. Then he says "you aren't good, but starting to play better." I win another 5 and he keeps making that same statement. Finally he just walks off. He wasn't terrible but he couldn't even win the games I tried to give to him. I am just happy we weren't playing for anything because I am pretty sure he would have been extremely mad if money was involved.

The breaking and running 2 racks does seem highly unlikely, but I'd have to watch him play and watch his mechanics for a little bit before I could make a definite determination. I'd be pissed too, but sometimes people do catch fire when they shouldn't. Was he running all the balls out in rotation or did he combo the 9 in etc?

By running out, I mean thin cutting the one at pocket speed to roll up on the 2. Playing 3 rails off the 2 for shape on the 3. Drawing two rails off the 3 for shape on the 4... The dude wasn't a four lol.

In the first rack he was running, he got a bad roll and the cue ball rolled to the rail on the 3rd diamond at the side pocket. The 8 ball was frozen on the opposite rail on the 2nd diamond. I figured he would try to bank it in and miss. He cut it right down the rail and went back and forth for the nine...

Edit -

What APA 9-ball SL4 knows how to shoot this, let alone what SL4 can actually make it and get shape?

I played Monday night apa 9ball. Im a SL7 and played a SL7. Won 16-4 in 18 innings. Not great by any means but its a win. Plus I think he dumped it to me. He's a SL7 in 9 ball but a SL5 in 8ball. Too fishy. Oh well im still 100% fpr the session

I think that is a believable scenario for a 4. The "shape" from the 7 to the 8 is atrocious especially using that route. Also the fact that he tried to cut it instead of bank it like you thought shows poor shot selection. It just happened to go in. More of a hit and pray type shot when he cuts. Given the cue ball is going back and forth across the table. He will have decent shape on the 9 sometimes. Looks like a miracle based on how he played the run and wouldn't expect it to be successful that often.

You and I don't think alike at all. Cutting the 8 ball in when it's frozen isn't that hard of a shot if you know how to hit it. A SL4 shouldn't know how to hit it. I know why he got that bad of shape off the 7, it was him making the 8 and knowing to go back and forth. Most 3's, 4's, and even 5's that I see try that shot end up scratching in the side.

I knew about the 8-ball shot you are speaking of when I was a 4, as the friend that was teaching me how to play showed me. I couldn't make it very often, and probably wouldn't try it in a league match at that point in time....

I agree, the way you describe him playing would have me suspicious, too. I've never seen anyone below a 7 run two racks, and that is a rarity around here.

I've seen this thread every day & I'm finally deciding to post in it.
About 9 weeks ago I got back on 2 APA 8-ball teams after a 2yr. layoff.
When I quit 2yrs ago I was a decent 6 in 8-ball & a 7 in 9-ball (at least in our league).
So anyway since my return I haven't been able to regain my confidence. I'm second guessing all my shots. And just haven't felt comfortable at the table.
Twice now once against a 4 & once against another 6 I was up 4-0 only to loose.
I just can't close anything out.
On a positive note I have had 3 B&R's but missed having 2 more by hooking myself & not being able to make the 8.
I'm sure in time I'll get it back but it can't come soon enough.
And know you know the rest of the story. Lol
