how are ya'll doing in league ?

tonight was our 1st night of new session for my 8 ball travel league.

i lost 3-3 to a 4 that i beat the last time i played him 4-0.

the match went 30 innings with me playing 7 safes and him playing 4. one of those nights where i could do nothing right and my opponent could do nothing wrong lol.

Same thing happened last night. Played a 4, lost 3-3. He won two, I ran out a rack, snapped the 8, got out on the 5th rack, and ended up scratching on the 8 the final rack.

Before that I had a guy woofing at me to play 9ball, bragging about how good he is, so I asked for the 7 and he got pissy. Typical.

First night of Spring session here too last night and I hope the rest of the session goes better than week 1 did. I didn't even START my match until 1:45am!! :eek: The middle match between a SL2/SL3 went the full 4 racks and took an unbelievable 34 freakin innings and an hour and a half to play. The first four matches total took 6 hours and 45 minutes to play!! What a joke. I've never seen anything like it. Once I finally got started playing my match...half-asleep mind you...It only took me 25 minutes to beat my opponent 5-1. Didnt end up getting home until 230 and had to be at work at 6. This day is gonna drag! I hate nights like that. Although we did manage to eek out a tie 6-6 after being down 4-0 after dropping the first two matches. OK off to go get another cup of coffee. :thumbup:

APA 8-ball started last week, other team canceled last minute. LO said we weren't allowed to take a forfeit the first week,so we're rescheduling. This Monday, lost to a fellow 3 2-0. Missed a crucial foul that would've helped me. Not sure if it was the stiff neck (still sore two days later) but I just couldn't get it together. Our team got beat pretty badly; that team seems to have our number, as we lost to them twice last session, and they finished dead last.

Played my first 8 ball match last week in 3 years for APA...beat a 6 5-0 in 12 innings with about 5 safeties...not too shabby.

Oh yeah? Well.. I shut out a 3 last night! Felt kinda bad, but not too bad since they were up 7-4 in points, so we needed a 3-0. Both sides ended up tying, 7-7 and 50-50.

Tonight, I go back to APA masters and hope to do well. Maybe I was just intimidated by my teammates before. My plan is to just go and win - doesn't matter how I get it done, as long as I get it done!

Good luck to ya'all!

No more taking it easy on 4's, Lo.

Well, I got some crazy new today. The first round of the tricup tournament is this Saturday,same day of my pre-scheduled 8-ball tournament I'm directing. This I already knew 2 weeks ago. Today, they released the match ups, and my team is playing at our home location, where my tournament is! :yikes: so on one hand,good news because I can cheer my team on in our first ever Tri-cup match. Bad news, I have to give up one of the 3 tables from my tournament.

Wow, there must not be many tables available around town. :(

* 8-Ball Matches Played Lifetime: 466
* 8-Ball Matches Won Lifetime: 315
* 8-Ball Lifetime Win Percentage: 68%
* 8-Ball Def Shot Avg Lifetime: 1.14

I remember when they made the stats available, my defensive average was somewhere around .65, I think. There's no (sane) way in hell I can hit 81%. Damn you!

Nope, unfortunately. No pool halls. My team's home location is a bar with three valleys. Every other team nearby plays out of social clubs (Eagles, Rusin, Slovak etc) or bars with two tables at best,usually one.

To your credit bud you have played twice as many matches. There is a very big chance I couldn't maintain this % on the next 200 matches, especially playing in the baggy league that I do and spotting all these games to these baggers. I love the challenge, but man it's hard to fade lol.

Not performance-based, but NAPA just released more details about the venue for the Nationals this June in Atlanta. Looks like I'm going to get down there for most of it! :thumbup:

I shot worse this week than last. I don't know what the deal is.

Tuesday Night:
Played an SL4 and lost 3-3. He won the first two. I ran out the 3rd rack, snapped the 8, ran out the 4th rack. Got down to the last rack and patiently waited for a run out. Ended up playing really bad shape for the 8, missed the bank and scratched.

Last Night(Wednesday):
Played an SL5 (race to 38). We both played horrible. Horrible as in him giving me BIH each rack for 8 racks. There were at least 12-13 dead balls, mostly on his part. I broke one time in 8 racks and it was horrible. Out of 8 racks, I dogged the 9 about 5 times and left it in the jaws.

I'm going to go practice on the gold crown and figure out what my problem is.

Sounds to me like your shootin' the balls where there ain't no pocket :thumbup:!!!

Relax...and breathe...there's better days ahead!!!

I have double Jeopardy tonight and probably playing both 8 and 9 so I can take next week off....now I just need to not giggle when I shoot 9 ball and miss (as a 7). They are taking bets on how long I can stay at that level (it had been 11 years since the last time I played 9 ball league). Good luck to me.

Thats actually pretty impressive Matt. SL7?? Amazing how low your defensive avg is too. I have only been playing APA 8-Ball for the past 2 sessions not including the one that began Tuesday. I played local leagues before getting involved with this team last summer. I was away from the game for 12 years before that. Here are my stats playing the last two sessions as a SL4, SL5 and now as a SL6

^^^ Thanks buddy. I have a feeling that defensive average is not accurate as I am definitely not a "break and run" type of player which probably helps me win a lot more matches because of this. In fact a lot of times I intentionally don't try to break and run. I always try to analyze who my opponent is and every rack right after the break. Is the rack runnable? Ok, then let's go. If not, when can I play my safe or even two way shot? I want to figure that out right away, not 2-3 shots in when I am running out of options. I am assuming that defensive # is the average of safeties I play in an entire match? If so that is definitely lower than probably what it really is....just last week I think I played 2-3 and he played 1-2 when I won 5-0 in 12 innings. Nothing against my state, but Iowa APA is not very strong as a whole....STILL it is sometimes really tough to fade matches as a 7 spotting the world to players playing 1-2 levels below what they really are.

Played a 3 last night and gave away the skunk then the win. 3-2 race, Won the 1st, 8 ball 12" from pocket, need to use crutch, missed the shot left ball in pocket. Won the 3rd easy. Rattled a ball in a pocket position on 8, the three did not miss. I was not a very happy camper last night when I left.

It could be an issue with the scorekeeper too I guess. Maybe they are misinterpreting your safes. My captain asks me quite a bit what my intention was when a shot wasn't simply a blatant miss. My understanding is that defensive shots have a considerable impact on your handicap and I'm pretty sure it is why I was able to stay a SL5 for as long as I did. I just became a 6 a month ago. My captain always puts me up against the opponent's best players. Its a big advantage to the team being a "C" level player coming into the APA as a SL4. I only stayed a four for about a month though. Of my 32 matches, I think I only played a SL5 three or four times. Have played 6 SL7's and won 5 of the 6 matches. The only guy I lost to has no business being less than a SL10! This guy was shortstop material but I did manage to get to the hill against him which I was OK with. And I do agree that strategy definitely varies depending on how your opponent plays, what the score of the match is, how much your team is up/down coming into your match, etc. Some guys you just don't need to play a lot of defense against. Anyway, that 81% is pretty good after almost 200 matches.

League just started for me

League just started this past Monday for the 2nd half of 3-man 9-ball. I didn't play first half due to getting married and a new baby.

I won 4/6 games and by me winning the last game it won the match for us.

I believe I was high man. We started out strong then fell off in the 4th and 5th round, had to play tough to win the last round and the match!

I was having problems shooting for sure. My right eye is my dominant eye and I caught myself a few times looking over the cue with my left. It caused me to miss all of those shots and hit balls way too full or way too thin for shape.

I rattled a bunch of balls in and rattled a bunch in the jaws. I need to get my eyeballs checked :eek:
