how are ya'll doing in league ?

Not to far from my house on Judith Peak the temp up there was with wind chill - 74 below zero , down here we had - 28 below zero with wind chill it was - 58 below zero and were still playing pool .

Last night's VNEA league game we won I lost my first game on a technicality there wasn't a patch to place at the pocket and I called the pocket and made the 8 ball so it was a loss of game for me , all of a sudden there was the missing patch had suddenly appeared !
I finished the night with 2 wins and 1 loss .
I'll find a extra " patch " to put in my cue case so this doesn't happen again .

I grew up in Chicago and now live in South Louisiana, and my favorite season is upon us - Locals panicking because it’s below freezing for the 2 days per year it’ll be below freezing.

As a result, my APA match last night was postponed, even though the roads were perfect, it was just below 32 outside. The night before there was some freezing rain, but conditions all day were sunny and breezy which means any thin layer of black ice was evaporated by noon, even if temps never got above freezing. But temps did get above freezing by 1PM, so that meant the roads were completely fine well before league time. It made sense to cancel things in the morning (no salt trucks down here), but canceling anything in the afternoon was ridiculous.

Meanwhile, I wanted to get some racks in a more social setting, and our local hall closed (also for no good reason), so I ended up making the haul down to Buffalos - which involves crossing a 23 mile long bridge.

I think I’m going to propose a team building activity where we fly to Chicago, grab rental cars, and do donuts in an empty Walmart parking lot when it snows.
Chicago here. Not as crazy as by Rusty. But Sunday was -10 and the bar was packed for league and qualifiers.

If all else fails I can always fire up my snowmobile and drive it to town for pool league games ha ha

Where I now call home is lovingly called the " Snow Hole " and historically can and will get dumped on with snow and then quite often high winds of 70+ mph ha ha

My no hc league I have been doing quite well, winning 9 of 12 games in the po's. Although, my hc league I got my ass handed to me again last night. For some reason I have a hard time winning in the hc league. I want to quit that $##&g league.

See I refuse to do makeups. If one team refuses the other team has to double play or forfeit. There is a group captain text between all Sunday team captains and I let all the other captains know we don’t do them. I mean if it’s a big holiday we will do one or two makeup matches but are not going to do all 5 as makeups. The other team better get at least a couple people there.

Do they do makeups in other leagues? I used to bowl in a bunch of leagues and never had a makeup even once. The other team didn’t show they lost.
Our APA territory allows makeups (within two weeks) until the last 4 weeks of the session, then none are allowed (save for a crazy weather event, then its gotta be made up that week...like this week). It is usually up to the team that has their players there, and most of us usually work with the team needing the makeup, unless they are habitual offenders, or wouldn't work with us before. (Funny how that works, isn't it?) Fortunately it doesn't come up often, and many of us have been in this league together for some time, so we mostly get along pretty well.

I can see how it would be $hitty if people weren't generally cool...

APA was postponed (as mentioned in an earlier post).

In USAPL, the pool Gods shineth upon me in a manner I have never experienced before, so much so that I'm waiting for my house to get buried in a sink hole at any given moment just to balence out the karma.

In 10-ball (Opponent is a Fargo 510):

Rack 1, he breaks and starts his run. But, trying to get from the 4 to the 5 he manages to both kick the 10-ball into becomming a side-pocket hanger and also scratches. With BIH I make the 5-10 combo for the win.

Rack 2: I break and sink a ball, but I'm left with an awkward cut on the 1-ball that I miss. He runs to the 9, but instead of hitting the rail clean to come around 2 rails for the easy 10 he hits the corner pocket point and sends the cue ball into the jaws of the other corner pocket (but no scratch), he makes contact but sends the 10 a few rails where it stops dead about 8 inches from the corner pocket. I win again.

At this point I'm up 28-13 by USAPL scoring and I've taken exactly 4 shots. Rack 3 he wins, Rack 4 I win in fairly normal looking games, resulting in an overall match win.

In 8-ball (Opponent is a Fargo 435):

Overall was a 3-1 match win. Rack 1, I run 5 balls and then miss a breakout shot, he runs out from there.

Rack 2: Broke and ran, but it was not clean. I had a handful of problem balls. However, 2 of them were taken care of by a texbook early breakout. And, for once, the balls actually spread a bit instead of me doing my usual trick of adding my cue ball to the cluster. I had 2 problem balls left where I was trying to play short side shape, but ended up knocking into one of his balls leaving me with an awkward bank on both shots.

Well, they would have been akward banks if this wasn't that one table in the bar that needed it's rails replaced due to age. With the dead rails, I managed to make both banks into the side at slow speed, which allowed me to hold for the 8-ball for the B&R. Maybe due to nerves, but I overcut the 8 ball, but fortunately on of his balls was sitting by the corner pocket which allowed for the 8 to carom cleanly into the hole.

Racks 3 and 4 I win for the match win. I maybe shouldn't have won rack 4, but my opponent was a rythem shooter and was knocked out of rythem a bit by that point I think.

Well, doing ok this session. Trying to lock in the 8 in 9 ball. 2/2 this session. I’ve been teetering between 7 and 8. They even listed me as an 8 for an APA SD a few weeks ago. Played a 6 yesterday. He had me on my heels for a minute. Ran out 3 times off my misses. Then I started pulling ahead. My 9 ball break has been amazing as of late and final 6 points came on 2 breaks. I needed 6. Drained the 9 and another ball on the break to get me to 52. Then broke in 3 the next one for the win. It sucks too. My last break I had a wide open table with shape on the 1 and would’ve enjoyed running it. Won 55-38 in 18innings.

8 ball. My break isn’t working the past week. It’s like an opposite game for me. Usually my 8 break is great and 9 is ok. Played a 5. 5-3 race. I got up 4-1 but was getting pissed because I hadn’t made a ball on the break first 3 times. So I switched it up, ended up finally making a ball, and flew the CB off the table. I don’t know what happened. He won that game and the next one and won the match. Maybe I gave up in my head a little.

3-0 in 9 ball 0-3 8 ball this session. Won 55-38 against a 6 in 16 innings. Then lost to a 2. Scratched on the 8 once. Broke and ran to get to hill. Then hill hill I went for the 2 pack instead of safing on ball before the 8. Got tied up and 4/5 shots later I lost. I really gotta start trying harder in 8-ball.

The team is what matters in league. We are tied for fourth in 9 and sitting in 5th in 8. There’s 12 teams. So that isn’t bad.

Playing well for my speed this session. 3-1 on the session with two wins coming vs. good sl7's. 3 BnR's. Last night I beat a strong 5 ,5-1. My 5 wins were in 7 innings total.

Here is a scenario for league captains or experienced players. Playing a match a couple weeks ago. This bar has 3 diamonds lined up side by side, so 6 teams were playing at the same time. I am at the table with one of my players who had called a timeout. One of my new, young players evidently saw something and thought I should know about it, so he came out to the table. I was about to tell him to go back to his seat when from across the bar, our league rep. starts screeching about how that is illegal and only one person at the table during a timeout, etc.

Mind you, we were not playing her team, they were playing 2 tables away. I firmly, but sort of politely informed her that her input was not needed, and we would take care of our match. She again, very loudly, stated the rule to me and let the entire bar know that it was a foul. At this point my young player is embarrassed and I'm pissed. I told her to get her azz back to her match and that I would handle any issues with my players, and that if the team we were playing had an issue (they didn't) we would handle it amongst the two captains. She returned to her seat mumbling about rules being for everybody or some other some such nonsense.

Last night some of the other captains told me she tried to file an unsportsmanlike complaint against our team and has been asking the other captains if they had noticed us breaking the rules. The LO rightly said she should chill out. Last night we beat her team 13-0. She was a no show. KArma is a bitch

The actual rule is that only one person can give the coaching to the player. Other people on the team can confer with the coach. The player needs to be away from them while they confer. The rules do not dictate whether or not that can be done at the table. We've always applied it as the actual player needs to be away from the conferring players, even at the table. (The player has to go to the other end of the table and wait for the actual Coaching person to talk to them.)

Your Rep is wrong.

Tonight is VNEA league well true to form I beat myself 2 of the 3 games played rattling the last ball before a chance to shoot the 8 ball tomorrow night I hope will be better .
Before tonight I was ranked #9 out of 46 players , time to bear down and get my head back into the game !

Nothing can screw up an APA league worse than a sorry League Operator. In the sixteen years I played APA, I had a good LO for the grand total of two SESSIONS!!! The current LO's are the main reason I dropped out of APA (no, not the only reason).
Fast forward a month and to the next Masters session. The LO forced himself into a grunting reply after I said hello when we arrived at the same time....lol. Seconds later he was all smiles to others standing beside me. 🤣
Good luck in your scheduled make-up match. Your team deserves to win it.
We ended up on with the short end of the stick on the make up, but still walked away with an overall win in the team match up.

Other than that make-up loss, I'm pretty sure we won the rest of the sets. I had to bolt after my sets so I didn't witness everything. I was told that the other team (now 2nd :) ) had a rough day and dropped a couple of sets to one of the weaker teams. Very surprising honestly... I don't know their scores, just the 3rd hand comments of losses.

Unfortunately if our LO stays true to form. We won't see the stats updated for another few weeks, so it's guess work at how far we've pulled away.

I played the top vnea team last night with 2 700`s lol
one of them i had the out but missed a thin cut that was on the middle of the shrot rail, hung it up,

the other broke dry left me with only a carom shot that if made all open from there, wasnt hard but still missed it and he went out lol

Finally won a match last night, it went to hill hill as handicap 5 players, but squeaked out a victory. Best of all, our team won every match last night! My record is now two wins and four losses, and I was in dire need of a win, and got it.
