Anyhow, i was watching this:

Frederic Caudron is insane, what I'm wondering is how one can "see" six cushions away? I've never played 3C, but I'm facinated by it. I guess what I'm wondering is how do you lean this game.

3-cushion billiards is a wonderfully beautiful game. If you spend a little time with it, like the rest of us you would probably be drawn in--its like a magnetic force.

Among other things you would learn over time to see shots where the cue ball travels 5, 6 and 7 cushions, but usually 3 is enough.

If you let me know where you live, perhaps I can put you in touch with someone who could show you the ropes. You can PM me if you wish.

Warning! After playing 3 c for just a short time you'll be hooked.

Pay no attention to Bruce. He's like a drug dealer wanting you to get addicted. Next thing you know you will become a member of the USBA and dream weird shoots in your sleep.

Don't do it!!

Congratulations on finding that video. You got to watch two of the all-time great players, and the referee was none other than ... Bruce Warner.

Caudron is currently the #1 ranked 3C player in the world and unarguably the best all-around carom player. His team just won their sixth consecutive European Team championship. In his final match against the second best Turkish player, Tayfun Tasdemir, he made 45 billiards in 13 innings (2-3-3-3-3-0-1//6-8-0-1//11-4). The other world class players call him "the extraterrestrial".

As told in earlier posts...3c is an amazing game. Neat thing about coming to it after pool is that you aren't starting from ground 0.

And about Cauderon seeing a 6 railer? I think he's done this before!

Amazing match

I'm very new to this game.

I watched the entire match. I am bummed about my sorry game and inspired at the same time watching these two gentlemen. Wow! Can I assume that the level of play on display in this match doesn't get much better?

A couple of questions- What is the purpose of the rubber? grip on the cues?

And what is that scuffer pad thing that Caudron uses often on the tip? Does it reshape the tip or re-suede the tip? Does the tip get glazed and hard from hitting the heavier balls with force?

Are both readily availabe for purchase?

Thanks

Bill W

Note: I recently traded PM's with Billiardshot/Bob re some chalk. What a patient and cool dude. Bob-thanks again.

The scuffer Caudron uses is this one
http://www.kozoom.com/fr/general/boutique-billard/produits/703/
It basically scuffs the tip, helps to eat chalk for better bite on the ball. Caudron and almost every 3C player I know does it while sitting, or after 3-4 hits/points. And just because the carom balls are heavier, does not mean the tips get glazed. Just that..3C is a game with bigger balls

The grip, whether rubber/suede/leather, velvet etc. does the same thing that the "irish linen wrap" does for the pool cues ;)

The silicone one for Longoni players and Adam's white grip are amazingly popular amongst pro players.

As for 3C quality, I have seen a game where Tayfun Tasdemir made 28 points in one inning (the player who got annihilated by Caudron in the last team champs of europe lol. Caudron is half alien lol) Semih had a 31 points run (and I think a 34 pt unofficial run). These top 3C players are just in a different league. But, within the last 10 years the gap between the very top 5 players (jaspers, caudron, sanchez, semih, blomdahl) and the following next 5 to 8 players got closer. It is a hard bet to know who would win)

Well, as for chalks, I do not know how they can be the hot set-up, something new or trend-setter lol. Frankly speaking, most of these chalks (there might be "magical" exceptions lol) come from the very same factory, the Tweeten factory in U.S. Longoni's Blue Diamond (and one more I cant recall) as well as most other (Caudron, Ceulemans, Sang lee chalks) do come from the very same factory as the good old US flag chalk lol. Top players usually market as their own brand. I saw Jaspers playing with the same Master US flag chalk, nothing special. I myself like Blue Diamond, it last longer but more importantly it is less messier.

Now what exactly is a "magic chalk"? Will it help me miss the miscues? :)

Pool players usually hate 3C players. For a reason

Not in my area...I usually find that those I play with know nothing of the other and I don't equate ignorance with distaste!

It is nice to be able to play both. Hate to tel my secrets, but I do love it when a good pool player belittles me for not wanting the 7 and I counter with: 'let's try some even-up on that no-pocket table, Mr. knowsomuch'.

I have yet to be burned by it.

How many 3C players do you know of in your area? Tell me a number, and I will tell you a number :)

I made such statement for a reason. Generally speaking (we are not talking about Efren Reyes) Pool players do know, we can control the cue ball to where we want, much better than them. We have system knowledge, i.e Diamond, RC etc. It is not too hard to keep up with or beat them at all. However, when they come to your turf, the carom table that is, pool players basically will have no idea, even if say they played the game for a good 50 hour. They still don't have the 3C mentality.
The carom games, libre and 3c, do have the pool game within itself, especially about cue ball control. Pool skills do not have much to do w. 3C.
The only downside to a 3C player playing at a pool table versus a pool player is, pure boredom. Pool is not as mind stimulating as 3C. So, aside from more hours of practice, only lack of excitement and thus lose of concentration can make a 3C player lose against a pool player on pool table.

Hi IPTF-

I think Magic Chalk comes from Russia. (via Mexico?).

I'm told it compares favorably to 'Blue Diamond' chalk.

'Billiardshot' has posted about it in the past.

Take care

Well..if Dick Jaspers can get it done with the good ol' US flag chalk, that should suffice it for me as well :)
Thanks for the info, though!
P.S: I have been up and down the block through Ukraine & Russia, where they almost always play Russian billiards only -with super tight pockets-. NEVER saw something called "magic chalk" in there! Besides Russians use cyrillic alphabet there. Is this what it writes on the chalk: Чолк?

Hmmmm. я понимаю! Now I understand but frankly never saw such chalk before in any Russian country billiard halls, and I have been around..
I am pretty sure there are threads on this chalk, I don't mean to hijack the thread either, but let me ask, how does it compare to other chalk brands? Cuz Russians usually go for the American-made stuff since the quality of Russian stuff usally sucks and it is very interesting that a Russian product is catching up in US LOL :D

Edit: I notice a carom table and a trick shot making drawing on the chalk box. I have never, ever seen one singular carom table in any Russian-speaking country. It is all pool and mostly Russian billiards, a game with super tight pockets, just like the Russian girls :)
