clean
My shafts are clean, keep mine sealed waxed and clean, and smooth
as a baby behind.
If the shaft is sealed, and waxed no dirt can get into the pores.
If the shaft is sealed and waxed it will not dry out.
If not the wood will dry out and more dirt can get in
,the more dirt , the rougher the surface.
Rougher the surface the more resistence, the more resistence , more wear and makes for a un-fluid like stroke.
Plus our hands have oils and acids that will eat way at everything we touch,
wood, steel, glass, plastics. everything.
Clean shaft, seal with 4 or 5 coats of 50/50 shelac and denatured alcohol, < dries in seconds, by the way shellac is,,,,,,,,,, bug shit from the lac bug out of asia , most is from chiness bugs, they have the best shit. Use a (cotton rag, old tee shirt) wipe it on.
I use the clear but I think amber would look good to.
It is safe non toxic.
