How do I break in a everest tip?

I purchased my first good cue the other day it came with a laminated tip. I have never used a laminated tip. I have always used regular and pressed elk masters. I played with the cue for 2 hours but the tip still has not settled. My question is when do I start shaping the tip? I use the old style scuffer that you put a strip of sand paper in.
 
Waaaah.... horrible tips here!

The best thing for an Everest is to enjoy the first 2 months. It's great.
Do regular scuffing while it's great.
Then it gets hard and you don't feel a thing and it's not springy anymore - maybe that's what you mean by settle. That's the feeling I absolutely cannot stand.

Change to Onyx - it's also BLACK ;)
 
I bought a Predator and it came with the Everest tip and I hated that tip. It may be for some people, but not me.
 
Well I shaped the sh!t out of it. Took off a bit of material. I'm gonna give it 2 weeks and if it still crap I'll go with what I know. It'll be elk masters or triangles. Yesterday I could not get any draw on the CN out of it. My old Kmart Minnesota Fats stick can draw the cb almost a tables length. I was lucky to get the Cue ball to draw 2 inches. Thanks for the advice guys

The issue your having here has everything to do with your stroke and nothing to do with your tip...

Stupid stick.
 
All Tiger tips are quite low compared to Kamui and Zan, so after gluing and triming the tip, all you have to do is to give the tip a nice nickel or dime radius.
If your having issues, maybe you could post a picture?
 
The cue I bought is a McDermott All maple gs series. The GS13. Honestly I'm not use to a solid cue as the cheap one I used is hollow graphite. Maybe the soild hit feeling is throwing me off. Aslo just started playing with an aramith blue logo not blue dot cue ball. I guess I'll have to adjust to it lol
 
It's getting better I have started to adjust to it. One of the main problems was the crappy felt on the local tables. Played on some Diamond tables and was able to pull English easily again as well as make difficult shots. Them red circle cue balls seem to play better than what I was use to.
 
I wouldn't even waste my time with the Everest. I've given those tips several chances and I'll never use one again. Elkmasters and Triangles are good, give Ki-Tech tips a try if you're looking for a good single-layer tip. Just make sure it's installed properly.

It's not the tip, it's the stroke.
 
had an everest on new z2 shaft that was glazed over, couldn't rough it up at all, miscued all the time. so I dipped it in mink oil, the stuff u put on baseball mits to soften them up and break in. I let it soak in for about 4 hrs. and wiped off used it a couple hrs later and worked great after that.
