what is a quick and dirty way ... to turn a bar box into drop pockets.. without changing the table permanently??

I have an old bar box that plays OK... but it is old... my guess would be early 70's it's a big ball box..made by International Billiards..out of New Jersey

my only issue with it.. the main ball return chute is metal and my old ball set has small straight line chips in them .. from hitting these metal chutes just right..

I bought a nice set of balls... super pro's

I don't want my table to destroy my nice new balls... also in the summer months when it's humid...the balls don't roll all the way through and come out filthy after a trip over the ancient cloth that lines part of the return chute..

eventually I will upgrade to a nice 9 foot.. but I simply don't have room for that now..

I want to turn it into drop pockets and line the pockets with something that won't leave the black streaks on my balls..

on the other hand after I do get my 9 foot.. I kinda want to polish the old box up and have a historically accurate old school big ball box..

so I don't want the change to be permanent..

any ideas???

table

I have a fischer table that has metal ball return..I lined the inner workings with 65 mil commercial roofing rubber. also made my own gully boots with it..you can also install a magnet with a guide along the ball return track to pull the a 2 1/4 plug ball aside from going into the trap..there is a spring or a guide for the over sized ball return..
With the rubber lining the ball return is silent..on my table anyway..
I have rubber lined valley tables as well to make them not so loud in homes..

Have a good day

Stick some big sponges in the pockets part way down the tracks, that'll block the balls from rolling through the table...then you have a drop pocket table;)

for a little while... until the balls get stuck...when a sponge falls over LOL....

have you ever reached through the tiny door they give you.. on this table

c'mon.. you are the best there is....... you gotta come up with better than that LOL

I know table snobs laugh at my table..... but it's mine!!!...it's all I got but I have flat slate and decent rubber..

thats really all you need

I'm talking about BIG sponges:D

I have seen 1 and 2 litter bottles cut to fit. And yes sponges and dish rags do work well.

I'll keep that in mind for the next time I recover the table .. it's a good permanent solution..but I don't trust myself to remove the slate and put it back correctly.. thanks for the tip..

You could do like the guys at a local bar around here did and just put plastic cups in the pockets. The bar owner used to get PISSED!
