how do I improve on my break?

Wanting to improve on my break. here is a video of my break, thanks.

Your break looks a little slow:

Your not hitting 1 ball square enough. Your not snapping your wrist. Your using ALL arm to break, which is ok but not optimal to say the least.

Your stance and bridge:

Your to square for my taste. Your bridge is to flimsy.... turn it to the side and roll onto the side of your palm. Shorten up your bridge length until you get bridge more stable. Your not following through. Your raising up to fast.

Your CB is all over the place. The 1 ball needs to go further up table:

Your not letting the 1 ball travel up table on break so it can come to rest close to a corner pocket. Move CB a little to the side... 1 or 2 in he's at a time, until 1 ball tracks to corner of opposite side you break from.

The Predator break app really helped to diagnose and fix my break. Makes it really easy to get feedback as you try different things. Best $6 or whatever it was that I've spent on pool.

He's not ready for SVB's style of breaking. He needs to get the "basic" break down first before he starts trying to add all the bells and whistles.

Good advice when he is a bit more advanced though.
Really??? Nothing Shane does is all that tuff to replicate. Don't know what you mean by "all the bells and whistles". I've seen SVB play in person a few times and nothing looked all that hard technique-wise. Shane practices his break more than anyone i've ever seen. That's the main reason its so effective. My $.02, that's all.

I have found that if you add a dash of experimentation (find something that works) and then repeat over and over again. I have been at the table and repeatedly practiced the break over and over for an hour before I ever shoot another shot and it helps a ton. Both with my break of course but also with my game as it seems to loosen me up.

Another piece one can experiment with is cue elevation.

Raising/ lowering the butt end results in a divverent (vertical) impact point.

Look at the cue ball last to make sure you get a center, or slightly above center, hit.
Barrie --- > neglected my break for far too long

Try the Predator break app.

I'm guessing 18mph. That's about how much I'm at. Would like 3 more mph.

Toothpick behind left ear and yell Hiawatha as soon as you hit the cue ball, no need to thank me

Shane's style of breaking may not be that tough for you but it is tough for most that are not able to even hit center ball.

He seemed to be having a problem hitting center ball with just an arm break. I can only imagine what part of the ball/rack he'll hit if he trys Shane's technique.

I'd be interested in seeing the OP perform such a break.

I'm like you, just giving my opinion. I may be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

All I know is, I had a hell of a time trying to implement Shane's breaking style and I'm a strong D level.

I been using the predator application last couple of weeks. I was using a raid break cue made by falcon wich is the cheaper dedicated break cue i found on the market when i came back to play last year. I recently changed to a bk2 because i am not happy with my break at all and guess what? My max speed went down by 20% with the pred cue but i have a better control on the cue ball now. I am still trying to understand what is going on lol

Focus less on hitting them hard, and more on hitting them fast. It might sound like the same thing, but it's not.

I experienced the same thing when I went from a McDermott stinger with the bigboy shaft with Samsara tip.

With the McDermott I was clocking 10 ball breaks between 25 and 27 with "good enough" control.

When I first went to the BK Rush my control went from "good enough" to very good but my average speed fell to 23 to 25.

Players I use to go hill - hill (or close) with.... I'm now beating regular enough to make most of them want weight or carry their business elsewhere.

Control on the break is essential.l, much moreso than really fast speeds. Of course, both are nice and most welcome in my book.

Stick speed is the sole source of the break's power, so focusing on that might be the most effective way to go. Focusing on breaking "hard", especially trying to "throw your weight into it", might cause more body movement than necessary.

Van Boening's "stand-up" break, for instance, might seem like he's throwing his weight into the break, but he's really just using his shoulder muscles and whole arm length for faster hand speed. (I don't know what he thinks of it.)
