How Do the Pros Aim

Thanks alot.Yes and I will say It again...HOW ELSE CAN YOU AIM A ROUND BALL AT ANOTHER ROUND BALL?? As you know everything,to get real good at, takes alot of hard practice.Sorry for being so loud. LOL I think we are on to sometin here. hehe.John B.

As you know, John, that's the beauty of civil discussion in these forums. The "discovery" process is helped along (instead of being impeded by bickering), and a lot of eyes are opened in the process.

I think you opened a lot of eyes here. And I know there are a lot of appreciative folks!

Thanks again,
-Sean

Stan mentioned to me, in person, many pros line up similar to the CTE alignment visually. He mentions it in the video. He asks a pro player what they are looking at and if they can see the CTE aiming points and they did.

JB never said he uses CTE. He said he uses similar aiming points as I'm sure many other pros do. And eventually it all turns into subconscious aiming anyway.

Best,
Mike

Hi John:

That sounds *a lot* like a method I mentioned earlier, which is "eclipse" aiming -- i.e. "how much 'overlap' of the cue ball do I give to the object ball to make it go 'this' angle?" (One would use the edge of the cue ball and the edge of the object ball to determine this, obviously. And it takes lots of practice to commit to memory "how much" does "what angle.")

Unless I'm reading the above post wrong? In any case, I want to let you know that *this* reader of your posts really appreciates your participation in them!

-Sean

Hey Sean,I want to say that I liked the way you used the word (method) Instead of that stinkin word (system) I think the word people should be using Is,ready for this...Method well....... and or technique. You seem like a real good dude also.John B.

I'm jumping in for one post and I want John B. to correct me if I do not have this correct.

As John indicated we have played many times for many, many hours. A few years ago I very briefly explained CTE to John using a few cuts as examples. John shot a few shots and said that's how I have always aimed.

More recently, Landon and John played about 8 hours of 10 ball. I observed John very closely. What I noticed was that John moves left and right into the cueball just as PRO ONE is taught. He did this over and over.
I commented about this to John after their session and once again he said this is the way I aim (from an offset position) just as I indicated to you a few years ago.

Check out John on accustats and you can see his movements as well. His movements are natural and without any kind of manual pivot. And furthermore, John is one of the purest shooters in the world and has been for years. He got that through hard practice and competition.

John, I tried to call and no answer. Landon is super busy with school at this time. I would love to play some Derby City pool with you...9 ball and bank and one pocket.....I am trying to get back in the competition mode.

Real good post right there and thank you so much. You said a mouthfull.

Stan, if Landon is delaying pool for school, GREAT! But, if he is delaying it for girls as someone else mentioned, then either teach him to pick the right girl, or get the kid neutered!:D

The junior year is our system is quite difficult..Landon is taking chemistry, American History, Spanish, anatomy and physiology, arts class and advanced English. His last 2 years of high school are super-important for his college preparation. Landon is working very hard this year and I am very proud of him and his concerns for quality schooling....He has a long distance girl friend and that is not much a factor at this point.

Landon wanted to go to the U S Open this year but chose school. He missed a week last year for Reno and it threw him behind, so he is making good choices.

What I noticed was that John moves left and right into the cueball just as PRO ONE is taught.

What does this mean?

So, CTE (et al) is a method of addressing the cueball in preparation for the shot, rather than a way of aiming the object ball into the pocket?

Either way, it sounds like a load of rubbish to me!

I would love to share and share a lot but when words like rubbish are used to describe what I teach then I see no point. I miss posting on AZ but I do not care for the negativity that quickly comes my way. I make one post in relation to a pro player's experience and I get.....well, I think it's clear to most.

At the same time, observe the changes to the cut angle, at each fraction, of english - inside, outside, top and draw.

Thanks for your advice I appreciate it. A very good point. I do notice the changes english makes on cue ball and object ball and try to see what part
of pocket ball falls in at. I practice on my jon bilt table pockets are 4 3/8
point to point 4. at center of throat shelf is 1 3/4.

Nothing like the old "hit and run."

If you have something to defend, take a stand. I used to teach on stuff like this and I always told my guys: Make your best case or someone else will do it for you.

Like Joey... or Neil.

It's the Monkey Principle at work. Splash 'em with the iced water and they will stay away from those bananas. (http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=243810)

Sorry Stan..............It is clear to most of us, unfortuantely.

No need to respond.
Just go back to teaching, coaching and training the best pool players in the world along with some of us wannabees. (It's our loss).

They will appreciate your professionalism, talent and skill far more than the AZB Main Forum. :embarrassed2:

Removed it so Lou wouldn't be able to crow so much.

I hope your'e not talking about this:

"Well, there you have it................ ANOTHER PRO PLAYER comes out of the closet on CTE/Pro One. Who'd a thunk it?

OK, so John didn't learn it from Stan but has been aiming this way all his life. hmmmmmm.

Have words, will travel!
