Here are the Simonis instructions:
http://www.simoniscloth.com/images/PDF/SimonisInstall.pdf

Our installers just installed (glued) Simonis on 4 non-backed slate tables at a retirement community. The customer is complaining that it wasn't installed exactly like the Simonis instructions. My opinion is it's the end result that matters.

I want independant feedback on how you install it differently and why you don't follow the Simonis instructions.

Thanks for your help,
Bob B

Installation Diagrams (approx. 500kb)

Please note that these installation diagrams show one way of installing cloth. There are several ways to achieve a proper installation and other techniques are acceptable.

I dont like the Simonis instruction, never used them or even tried it. It seems to me this method would leave your pockets looking like crap. I know alot of reputable mecanics and nobody I know uses this method. You see alot of stuff out there and sometimes I think its made for a weekend mecanic and not a pro.

?????

what exactly is the problem they have with the installation? was it because the table is playing bad?

I have tried it this way 10-12 times and dont like it even with the cheap cloth. If the tech used spray glue then that person probably got it in the playing area so the balls rool funny if they did it Glens way with the roll on glue only on the edges of the slate then its done right possibly.

Are these tables new, used 1 piece slate or even coin op tables. also what brand are the tables in question? Do people costantly sit on the tables while talking or watching tv in the rec room. Do the balls rool in to the middle of the table or roll out to the rails?

if it was unbacked slate (like a bar box) you have to glue it down .
you can't staple into the slate.....

Hi Everybody,
I did not do these tables but know a little about the situation. The tables I think are National Shuffleboard and Billiard Co. tables. The tables were stapled except for the pockets. This job is at a retirement community. While the mechanic was on the job there was one resident who had printed out the Simonis directions and complained that the mechanic was not doing the recover like Simonis had shown. It got to the point where the gentleman was asked to leave the room or the mechanic would not finish. There is no issue with the recover except it was done different than Simonis had shown.

If you ever want to meet a expert on anything, go to a senior center!!
They really crack me up. I had to break up a fight one time at a center.
they were fighting over the decision to draw a triangle in the rack area!
We normally tell them the glue and wax is toxic so they cant be in the room!!lol

Unfortunately, I'll be in there one day trying to tell a young mechanic how to do his job....

Yeah, those are always fun. What's even better are the "behavioral centers" for persons with "mental disabilities". Veeeeery interesting day in the office, that one was.
