Everyone bets on the killer player that they have seen thrashing everyone in town all week... but he dumps to the stranger that straggles into the room, looking for a big game... Then they split the money outside....

Lets say theres the "killer" (the first of the brothers) who everybody knows their speed, but doesn't really know anything about, and and there is an guy (preferably a local) who probably doesn't play as well.... the stranger.
The killer propositions the stranger, who doesn't want the bet, or out of stupidity maybe they do, but low and behold. The other brother buddies up with the stranger and backs him, working the rail for the side action. The killer dumps and leaves. The backer brother and the stranger celebrate, the backer leaves then the brothers join up later and split the side action. The bet with the stranger is a loss, so there has to be significant side action to make this one work. It is better that the second brother work the room well ahead of time to get himself "in" a little bit.
For it to work, no one must know that the 2 brothers know each other, otherwise the only bets that should be made is how badly they will be beaten in the parking lot for trying to pull such a dumbass stunt.

The more elaborate a "hustle", the more chance there is that something will go wrong. Dumping and laying down to get a better game is one thing...... when you resort to flat out con games to get action or to win, you are taking your chances..... big time.

I thought "two brothers and a stranger" is when you sidebet against the guy who has been beating everybody but pre-arrange for them to dump. The stranger is the person sidebetting against you. Kind of what you're saying, I think, but I'm just trying to make sure that I understand it.

It doesn't matter really. The point is there are 2 brothers working a total unexpecting stranger....
