How do you make this shot

Ok, so i'm pretty much as much of an amateur as you'll find regarding pool, but wouldn't it be much simpler to hit a combination shot there? That said, very impressive and something I wouldn't even think to try.

One issue with shooting the combo is he would be playing long shape on a rolling ball, perhaps as much as 2 rails.
I sure he avoids getting shape on rolling balls as much as possible.
Still a pretty gutsy shot, got a little lucky with the shape.

Hey guys, sorry I missed this thread. First of all, I have done this lots of time as I am sure many others in practice. It is not the hardest shot in pool but is the hard to shoot it when you need it at the right time. Just my second appearance live on a national tv. The shot was straight on the left side of the pocket. I intended to make the 6 near right side of the pocket so it jumps less of the 7 ball and the shot was not straight. Thus I used left spin. And I use a Z shaft not so easy I guess.
Anyway, I did it again LOL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ba1laJ5cKuo&list=UUGpy0hrB1iMEx9fj6WaZPJA&index=1 This time no good camera angles, but it was harder cause I had to masse also a little.
happy shooting

Well, it was a great shot. And to pull that off during an important game is really strong. Great job!

Haha that 8 ball shot was fantastic Madfox... except I think it went clean anyway! Looks like it was on the second or third bounce when it passed the 9.

My friends and I sometimes joke "that guy's so good, he'll jump a ball that isn't even there, just because he can."

What is the maximum angle possible to make this jump shot? I reckon the cue ball, object ball, and pocket has to be dead center to make this shot like in the vids.

you can make the ob jump from almost any angle. However, once you get a little off straight, your chances of the cb flying off the table greatly increase.

Also, it is difficult to judge the final OB direction when jumping at an angle because the direction depends on the height of the CB at impact with the OB. For more info and a video demonstration, see:

Obviously, if this shot is straight in, it's a lot easier. Most people can't jump a full ball with their playing cue, so you're almost guaranteed to land on top of the object ball if it's within a reasonable distance. Here's Jeanette Lee doing it on a slightly smaller scale, but it's a good way to start if you want to do it yourself.
