How does that even make any sense? Shorten the race from Semis?

So I went to their format page on their website and saw this tiny little line saying "Due to tv contract the races for the final day may be adjusted." But this is UNHEARD OF in the pool world. I just got back from outside and turned to the results page, looking at the score for the first semi and thinking "What, Kiamco got a date to go to so he forfeited at 7-4?"
I wonder what the players are thinking.

They always shorten the t.v. matches. But I agree should be to 13 then finals15.

I agree. This is a planning error. You don't shorten the semis or finals, you shorten the matches before that. Of course if the best player gets knocked out due to the shortness of the race... it doesn't matter if it happens early or late, it's still unfair. But seriously, I'd rather shorten the round of 32 and save tons of time than shorten the round of 4 just to save a little bit. wtf...

Great idea! I'm not a promoter but the NBA finals final game should be 2 quarters and PGA tour should only play 9 holes on Sunday.

Does anyone know why they don't play the longer race and edit for TV time?

I suppose they always do this but it seems rough to play the whole tournament and lose possibly because of the shorter race.

Not unheard of at all. Many tournaments that are aired by ESPN get shortened for the televised matches. The BCA championship comes to mind, along with some UPA events. In previous rounds the matches were a race 10 or 11, the semi finals and finals were a race to 7.

But I agree, I would rather see a edited match (which it will be anyways) than to have the integrity of the event compromised.

The WPBA does this routinely. As I recall the San Diego event matches were to 10 or so, but the semis/finals are at 7 games for TV considerations.

I agree though, the final 3 matches should be longer. They edit the TV matches anyway even at 7 games, so what's the difference, show us more highlights of the games in between the full games put on TV and play to 11, 13 or so. When they got down to the final 32 they increased the matches from 10 games to 11, so it is odd they go down to 7 games for the final 3 matches. Maybe they figure the audience wants to see more full games in a match. If the race is to 7 they can fit more complete games (as a percentage of the total games in a match) into the hour.

Gotta give the announcer credit for saying Orcollo properly.

Or better yet, why doesn't ESPN stop playing the same episode of SportsCenter 5 times a day and show the entire pool match instead?

Oh well, I guess more people would rather watch SportsCenter than watch high quality pool...
