How excited do you get?

Every time I walk towards a pool room, I get excited. As I get closer, I can always feel my heart rate increase, and I walk quicker and quicker. The place I go to now is on the 9th floor of a building, and the wait for the elevator seems to take forever. Then, once I get inside and start to take out my cues, I calm down. This has happened every time I go to shoot for 5 years!!! Does anyone else get like this?

And no...I'm not addicted at all, and I don't know why you would even bring that up...;-)

As a matter of fact, I feel the same thing. And this after playing pool for 40 years!

At one point, for a variety of reasons, I stopped playing pool for 10 years. But I found myself in Oregon, stopped at a traffic light, where I heard the unmistakeable clacking of pool balls. As if I were compelled by some unfathomable force, I pulled off the road to investigate. I followed the sound till I discovered the bekoning room. And immediately, that unending allure nabbed me again. I've been back playing 5 years now, as fervently as ever. Pool never lets go, no matter how long the separation ...

I used to get that feeling, I don't any more, but I still love the game as much if not more than I did before. I too had to take a break from the game, but it was for only 2 1/2 years. Since that 2 1/2 yr break I've learned to play with much more finesse and precision and I can appreciate the game a little better now that I have some more knowledge of the finer points and mechanics of the game.

I really haven't had it for a while because I have mainly been only playing on bar boxes. In the past several weeks I have went to the new Big Al's in Vancouver to play on the 9 footers and walking through the door I get that sensation. The tables are in a large stadium type seating sports bar area with people eating above the tables watching large projection screens. As I walk into the hall, down the row of tables and people giving me looks as I walk in with my cue, buzzing with adrenaline I glance around and think to myself as I look at the table.. "That's right, Todd's here. Let's dance.."

I get pretty jazzed when it's my league night. Practice days at pool halls are fairly standard now for me, but I look forward to Thursday night all week just so I can compete.

I think part of that feeling is because you are taking some time for no other purpose than to enjoy something for yourself. All of those forces in our lives that want us to serve them are put on hold while we play pool. It's contrary to responsibility, this causes the rush. Ain't it cool.

Run up the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator. Another great way to get the heart rate up.

It still happens sometimes but not very often. I think for the most part the thrill has gone. Basically it is because I have been here and done it before.

I get excited as well...in fact, I usually sprint up the stairs to my hall. It's on the third floor... I can't wait to get my exercise tonight!

Even though I'm getting to the point where I feel pretty relaxed during competition, I definitely feel the buzz when I know it's getting within a couple of hours of go time. I sometimes still get excited going out to the pool/snooker room in the back yard. Oops, gotta go. Malta Cup snooker just resumed...

Yep, excitement is a feeling that will never go away. I have leagues tonight, and I'm going to meet a fellow player a little early to practice beforehand. I'm excited.

I've lost sleep over it. The first time I played in the finals of the VNEA teams a few years ago, I couldn't sleep *at all* the night before. I played on no sleep. Once the match started I was fine, but every moment preceeding that was pure torture.

I can't concentrate at work if I know I'm playing that night.

There's also a certain feeling that poolhalls give me. Sometimes while sitting at home, I'm thinking "I don't feel like playing" but when I get to the poolhall I'd be very eager to play.

Sure I get excited.

I love to compete, drink beers with friends, and be in a social atmosphere. It's the one night a week I get out of the house and am able to forget about everything but my game.

Pretty room, beautiful layout, ugly red felt :p

You know I am really glad that there is a 12 step program for our addiction, and that step one is Play Pool, and im not upset at all that I never have made it past step one!

I get the same feelings after 20 years of playing. It doesn't have to be a pool hall though. Could be a bar, someone's house with a nice table, sports club maybe. It's hard to get me off a table once I start hitting. I have been know to only hit the cueball around trying different banks, english shots, etc for hours.

I also have a couple long standing rules.
1: No talking about work once I step in a pool hall.
2: No taking a girl to the pool hall if I am expecting to play serious. I get so focused on pool, that they always get mad because they are ignored. Unless of course, she is going to shot with me.
3: No one shots with my cue while I am playing with it. Bad karma.
Lastly, no drinking when playing on regulation size tables. Barboxes, drink, drink, drink.

Nice thread!

Prozac takes the edge off...;) .....I think the Iraqi's would calm down if we spiked their water supply with Prozac ... j

now thats excited.

I get so excited when walking up to a pool hall, that it was causing me to suffer from pre-mature ejaculation. After months of therapy, I have learned to just not go to the pool hall with a loaded gun.

Agree with you 100% on that.

I've lost sleep over it. The first time I played in the finals of the VNEA teams a few years ago, I couldn't sleep *at all* the night before. I played on no sleep. Once the match started I was fine, but every moment preceeding that was pure torture.

I can't sleep before a big tournament either, but it doesn't affect my play much when I get there. Maybe thinking about pool all night has a positive impact on my game.;-)

When I used to go out with my ex gf, I would have to sit my back to the pool table if there was one. I couldn't even take my eyes off the bangers... How pathetic is that?

That room with the red felt is beautiful...other than the red felt. Why would someone do that? Why would you shell out for an Olhausen just to do that to it?
