PoolGuy, I didn't take Bruce's (MM) post for not much more than his opinion based on what he read in this thread so far. Some positive and some negative opinions.
When I purchased quite a few DPs, I probably paid in the lower $200s for most of them, several years ago before the cue market dropped a bit.
To me, even at that price they were great value.
One of the things that has me a bit perplexed is the couple of posters that mentioned that the ferrules came loose. I'm not a super repairmen or anything but one thing I can say is that I have never had a ferrule come loose. That part of building or repairing isn't quite rocket science yet.
Dale told me that he uses Le Pro tips as his standard. If you're not a Le Pro fan, just change out when you get a DP.
I can't see Dale thinking, "well, now that my cues are selling for a lot less than they did a few years ago, I will take less care in building them".
Doesn't make sense from a craftsmans point of view.
People are hard to please sometimes and you can bend over backwards for them and they still wouldn't be happy no matter what they got.
I'll still stand by my word even tho I haven't bought a DP cue in several years altho I am tempted to just to compare.
For $125 to $150, you're going to get yourself a very well built cue that plays great. If you are just using it for League night and at the hall, you can't go wrong.
If you want something for resale value, look elsewhere altho I bet you could easily find someone at your local hall that would pay you for it.
Look at it one way, Dale double presses his wraps and they look great. If you were to get one of your cues re wraped, a good job like that will cost you 40 to 45 dollars. Take 40 off the 125 you paid for your new DP and see what you get, you just paid $85 for your cue.
Maybe a bad analogy but you see what I'm getting at.
