How is the new US Open venue?

I'll be heading to The Open Thursday - Saturday and was wondering how people were assessing the new 3 room venue? I'm wondering if not being able to see 2/3's of the tables is a downer. It would be nice if they had some electronic scoring in all the rooms for all to see, otherwise using the Real Time Scoring on my Android is going to eat my batteries alive.

Food? Drink? Vendor turn-out? Is Q Masters in walking distance? Any hot tips on maximizing the experience would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt

Interested in hearing this info, as well. Hopefully, someone who is there will see this thread and respond.

Go spend $20-25 on an external battery, leave it in your coat pocket. They are really handy for situations like this. My phone is a battery pig, having the extra battery is so easy, especially on a long day at the pool hall. My battery pack stays in my pool bag much of the time, for just that reason.

Look forward to reports, have a great time!

I am not there, but I did a Google search, and the hotel is 1 mile from Q-Masters. It looks like a really classy venue! :)

I had heard it was 3 blocks, so I was hoping to be able to walk between sites.. Man, that looks like a wicked 3 blocks.

Thought I read on the Open Website that the Holiday Inn had a shuttle bus running to Q-Masters so you shouldn't have to hoof it.

This where I grew up. That is one hell of a walk, just grab a cab for $4-$5 bucks. or better yet someone said there might be a shuttle service to Q-Masters
Hey do yourself a favor and stop at Tony's Hot Dogs on Newtown rd. They got the BEST hot dogs and home made secret recipe chili. If you go to Tony's tell Phil that Murphy said Hello

Short cut?

It should be a shorter walk if you avoid going to Newtown Rd, and take the shortcut thru Ballard Ct and Freight Ln (zoom in Google-maps to see the street name).

It should be a safe enough neigborhood.

I don't get there til Thurs, so I can't offer any boots on the ground info.

I did speak to Shannon Behrman-Paschall a while back and she did mention that they would be running a shuttle from the hotel, to Q Master.

As someone mentioned, even cutting thru the back way, which is thru an office complex & industrial/small warehouse area, I would guess it to be a 20 minute walk.

Thanks, Eric, that is good news!

i don't know but i've been told

That the shuttle is free, dependable, and runs about every 30 minutes between the venue and the poolroom.
The neighborhood around the venue is pretty much all hotels, but there's a Denny's or something within walking distance.
The poolroom is nice.

Good info so far. Other information would be helpful: I don't suspect this is the case, because hotel's website doesn't mention it, but do they offer complimentary breakfast? How is the food in the restaurant/diner and how about prices? Who are some of the vendors?

Those whom have not visited will be very dissapointed with the layout...you now have to decide which match to watch. The TV Table and all the other areas are horrible. There is not enough space to walk around, you have to get up your seat to let others go in or out of the area, very little standing room for those whom have not paid for VIP Seats....it will be total mayhem for the Finals.......again, I don't think anyone will liked what they will see.....

Man, that's a disappointment. But, never having attended the Open before, I intend to have a good time regardless. I plan on buying general admission tickets when I get there, which sounds like it will be challenging, at best. Oh, well....

worst ever

Having been to the last 20 or so Opens ,I can say this is the worst setup ever-you have to get up to let anyone in or out-if you are watching the tv table that is all you can see-if you are in one room there is no way to know what is going on anywhere else-
At 2 oclock the 3 oclock matches had not even been posted yet-there is one room with just about 20 seats in it-a vendor I know told me it was the absolute worst setup possible-
I usually take the 2 hour drive 3 times during the week, but I stayed from 11am to 2:00 this afternoon, and gave up and will not be returning-save your money and your time-

"All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go, this post here makes it sounds like it blows..."

Regardless, thanks for your post; not what I was hoping to hear, but as in my OP - what I had feared for a 3 room set-up - times 10. I wonder if there are any VIP seats left because it sounds like it would make a world of difference in spectating enjoyment.

KK9 <--- will surely spend more time at Q Masters vs the venue. Who wants some of my moola? ;)

Joe Salazar should be there with a lot sweet cues.

Food:
Tony's Hot Dogs
Q-Masters has always had great food at very good prices.
Can't go wrong with a Barry Burger with Bacon & Cheese and Frys....Yummy
