How long is a pool cue butt?

Hi,

I'm looking at some OB cues here:

https://www.obcues.com/product-category/playing-cues/

and some of the cues say that they are 60", which isn't really true because it depends on what length shaft you choose, but at least it says the butt is 30":

NOTE: This is a 30 INCH Butt. Add a 29″ Shaft to make it a 59″ Cue or a 30″ Shaft to make it a 60″ Cue.

However, OB's other cues don't say how long the butt is. How long are they? Also, does anyone know if OB's new S-Line of shafts include any 30" shafts?

I'm also looking at some Pechauer cues here:

https://pechauer.com/product-category/pool-cues/jp-series-q/

and the descriptions omit both the butt length and the shaft length. How is one supposed to know how long the cue is?

I'm 6' 3"+, and I'm wondering how long of a cue I should buy. Should I be considering a 60" cue?

Thanks.

What hawaiian said is true, the default is 29 shaft and 29 inch butt, that’s default since the 80s, before that there were companies/customs that made even shorter cues, buddy hall swore by a cue that he played his best pool with and it a 57 inch cue.

Back to your question tho.

OB claims a cue which is 60 inch length, and this is not out of the norm now a days, so many companies make different lengths and modifications, people now a days prefer 30 inch shafts for some reason, they claim that they can reach shots better, hell now a days pros are playing with extra 6 inch extensions for all shots which makes the cue anywhere from 64 inch to 70 inch.

So OB cue is probably a 30 inch butt and 30 inch shaft, which is not unusual now a days in production.

For me I still prefer 58 inch cue, I.e 29 inch shaft and 29 inch butt. Just request this if you prefer it like me

The length of each prt is different on some cues for one reason or another.
Some people like a 60 inch cue ,but buy a 58 and get the shafts made longer
so that in the event they decide to sell the next buyer will still buy a 58
These people fear that a longer butt might reduce the market for a new buyer

Others have old balabushkas maybe 28.5 butts, so they buy a new shaft
29.5 to make the cue 58 which they like. They notice no difference in play

South west Cues makes their shafts longer than the butt for a different reason
that Jerry explained to me.
