How long to lust over a cue....

"Hi, my name is Runner, and I like cues"

Everyone:

"HELLO, RUNNER"

"It's been 163 days since my last cue purchase... trying to stay off the 'Bay, man this is
hard...."

"THANK YOU FOR THAT, RUNNER"

Cars, guitars, cues, watches, women, pistols... it'll never end....

I've been 'courting' and old guy I see playing from time to time who plays a Martin...
the old big pin, cork grip. gahhhhh!

Patience like most things is developed. Sounds like you are getting there.

I waited 3 1/2 years for my Mike Bender POW-MIA cue.

P.S. A belated Happy, happy, happy Birthday Ken.

I think I may be the most patient collector of cues. Sure I have bought and sold some quickly, but several of my "keepers" took years to finally get. I am not talking about the years we are on a waiting list for a cuemaker. I am talking about discussing buying a cue and either the buyer is not ready to sell, or you cant work out a deal to make it happen, but eventually you work it out and get the cue.

My favorite cue, my Schick took about 2 years. The Hoppe Gus was well over a year.

I think I am about 2 years of waiting on a cue that the owner knows I would like to have. Basically, when he is ready to sell, I am ready to buy, period.

Am I alone on this one?

Ken

PS. Its my birthday.

You get 4 weeks, maybe 5. Anything else is ridiculous.
(Also my rule for special equipment I order. If you can't do 4 weeks you're out, and I will never care again.)

A friend of mine showed me a Troy Downey cue he had for sale. It was instant love based on looks alone. Then he let me play with it. I was hooked.
I gave it thought for about a month and told him I was considering buying it. Then the crafty devil said take the cue and play with it full time for awhile.
So as you can see in my signature I bought it.

As a friend he may have just been trying to make sure you didn't make a rush decision. Sometimes we pick up a new cue and the different feel makes us focus more and play a bit better. That can go away, and it was only the excitement and feel of the "new" that we fell in love with. Of course, I'm in sales, so giving you "temporary ownership" goes a long way towards permanent ownership.

You are probably right about a rush decision.
I've been in sales a lot of years.
When I was selling cars we would encourage people to take the car home overnight.

I sold a cue CHEAP to a buddy when I was broke. We don't have a buy back agreement, so I'm left to pestering him about it. I hope I'll catch him in a generous mood or a moment of weakness. I WANT the cue back. It's nothing terribly special: a Perry Weston 4-pointer with sharp points and some ivory inlays. It's ebony into smoke-stained maple. To be honest, the hit is average at best.
I've been lusting after this one for a long time now.

Nice play Brian:groucho:

There is hope! I kicked the cue buying bug 34 years ago. Have been clean ever since. Hope I don't start a trend!
