How many miles you get out a that Kamui?

Last week there was a thread about scuffing. I made a comment that I never scuff buckshotshoey replied "I agree. Everyone should mention what tip they are using. Better data base for everyone to see what tip seems to require more maintenance'. This made me realize I had accidentally created a natural experiment.

I installed a Kamui Clear Black Hard tip on July 17th and noticed my shaft had warped on October 7th. Being the weirdo that I am I had photographed and logged the tip change on my blog. So today I pulled the shaft out and photographed it again. To make it slightly more interesting I happen to log my practice everyday in a little black book and post my practice to my blog so I actually know how many balls I hit with it give or take a few hundred.

Tip: Kamui Clear Black Hard
Installed: July 17th 2014
Retired: October 7th 2014
Balls Hit: 24,500

IMO there's no way you wore that tip out that much in that short amount of time unless you scuffed the sh*t out of it regularly

Confused

I have had a Kamui black on for the last, approximately, 2 years. I actually don't scuff mine except very lightly every couple weeks. I play nearly 20 hours a week in the winter, less in the summer, and it was still pretty tall when I cut if off recently to try a Ki-tech, which I now prefer. Kamui black was a medium. The Ki-tech is a medium hard, if that matters.

Just telling you how it is I chalk after every shot and I shot somewhere 24,500 and 25,000 balls

Edit: master chalk

That is roughly 18 racks of 15 balls every day in that time period. Can you show a picture of your chalk? How many cubes of chalk did you use? I cannot wrap my head around that tip being weathered like that unless it was scuffed. Do you use a tip pick?

I think it's a very good idea to log your practice sessions though. If you say you didn't scuff that tip I'm going to have to take your word for it. I'd still like to see pics of your chalk.

I usually photograph and log my chalk when I change it unless I'm not at home or the photo sucks. I usually try to use a piece till it falls apart.

Oh and I brush my chalk across like a civilized person. Never never drill...lol

It would be pretty cool if you could use a different tip for your next series of blog entries...maybe another layered tip with the same amount of layers as this Kamui. Same amount of time and same amount of balls hit with it and see how much is left.

After the next layered tip maybe you could use a non-layered tip. Maybe use a milk dud or one of Renfro's tips. This is very interesting to me.

BTW, that's a very nice blog.

I am doing so as we speak. I just bought a pechauer performance plus lite shaft with a factory installed pechauer gold hard tip. So we shall see how it goes.

tips

A kamui tip last me about a year in a half.
I chalk every shot.

Ps everyone does know mosh chalk is very abrasive.

Damn. Now wish I would have done the same thing when I put mine on in the spring. I will take a pic of it and post it here when I get a chance, along with the date I put it on.

Probably has more to do with how you're chalking.
I'm a swiper, not a grinder. Probably has to do with all the snooker I used to play.

I'm not sure why people think that scuffing your tip is the only way to make your tip go down.

Chalk itself is an adbrasive. Chalking 24,000 times like the poster says, yep I can believe the change in the tip.

Not the greatest pic. Tiger Onyx. Installed 2nd week of February. Initial shape, broken in, one more minor shape, then play. No scuff, no pick. Just burnish side of tip occasionally.
