How many of you practice "Safe" shots? I do this once a week. Robin gave me practice pages.

I said: "Here kitty, kitty". Got this frown.

I am the only one that practices "safe" shots in my pool room. But most of these are only available and accountable in 9 ball or 10 ball. But, In 8 ball, these safties are different. And, I think it is so important to do drills than shooting balls in a practice session. If you don't have drills, find a instructor to give some.

Colt Kodiak, Howdy;

Get a copy of R Givens' "Eight Ball Bible". Granted it's geared for the old 'Heavy' CBs but they can be adapted
to an equal weight CB.
Chuckle, an folks ask me why I hit the CB so hard, LOL.

Inasmuch as the only pool available to me is small bars with one table, I might get 20 minutes practice a week; none of it quality time. That said, since table time is at a premium, I play safeties all the time. This can piss a drunk off no end but no pain no gain.

I practice playing safe some. I just started doing this recently. I usually just put a couple balls on the table and try to put the cue ball behind the only ball on the table it can be tough. Especially from one end to the other.

Safeties may just be the one thing I do actually practice. As in set up balls randomly and attempt to performed specific outcomes.

I practice safeties constantly.
I play the 9 or 10 ball ghost all of the time and safety play is part of that practice as is kick safeing.
I practice the way I want to play.
Lock up safeties lead to run outs.

Can you recommend any drills, or diagrams to work on safety shots? My safety game is quite weak, need to improve it dramatically.

I break my practice time up into segments but mostly around shot making. I took a big break during virus time. I'm better at One Pocket safeties than 9 or 8 ball safeties but I do remember one match where I was down 4-0 that I won because I wouldn't attempt a shot I wasn't favored to make. Safeties are a part of the game and they can be match changers. I do like One Pocket because it includes all type of safeties if you let the cue ball loose to send it way up table.

Robin Dreyer needs to write the safety shot book. I have about 40-50 sheets of his safety drills.

When I practice 9 ball I take BIH after the break. If I fall out of position I play a safe to tighten up my safe game. I play out the rest of the rack like a live game situation. If I scratch I give myself BIH and focus on running the rest of the rack.

Hope this helps 👍

My safety practice is usually by accident, unintentional and self inflicted in the middle of my run out LOL
I don't know how many break and runs I messed up with hooking myself on a shot but it's enough that I would probably be considered a solid A player instead of a B+ if only that type of mistake can be removed from my games :)

My practice partner and I play every Monday night during league season.. he has an old set of scoring beads on the wall, only 2 ways to score a bead, you get a black bead for ERO's and you get a light bead for called safeties that result in ball in hand.. we keep score for the entire year, been doing that for 5 or 6 years now and both of us play much better safeties now than we did when we started.

Controlling the speed of both the CB and OB at the same time is crucial to becoming a solid player. Putting both balls where you want to.

That’s what playing 1P teaches you. And the “safe” part of your game will jump up a lot with some 1P action.

Good luck

How did Robin give you anything?

Aren't you robin dreyer?

I'd be interested in some negative reviews of yourself.
