How Many Players For Qualifiers?

How would you feel if you were getting a few grand each weekend for a product you didn't have.

KT is laughing his ass off all the way to the bank.

I don't think there are as many free qualifiers as everybody thinks, KT is probably bringing in more than a "few grand" a week.

$2000. Tournaments

I wonder how many players would Sign up if i held a $2000. entry fee tournament in my room and used all the Money to pay back in prize funds.
I had a Qualifier in my room at the beginning Of the IPT and there was over 70 players that payed $2000. for Nothing!

That would be Over 140K in Prize money!

All Players Interested Email Us and we will set it up!

I think that is exactly what KT had in mind, only with another zero at the end. The qualifyer income at least covering the prize money, and the advertising, endorsement, product sales, video streaming membership, dvd sales, revenue adding to the profit stream.

On paper, it almost makes sense. There were other flaws in his business plan, plus just overcoming KT's persona added more hurdles, but the real dealbreaker was the $100K per card holder guarantee, it would have taken multi-years, if ever, before the business model would have been able to cover that nut.

Lets GIT R DONE

Lets face it KT gave the players a dream that all the top 150 players keeping there cards and only charging them about $200. to play for millions then the other 50 players that wanted to get in on it had to pay $2000. to play in a Qualifier where only 2 players would get a chance from each Qualifier.

Thats Not good Odds.

In the Biz world you have to spend money to make money but you dont have to go to vegas and spend crazy money to put on a big show when there is Pool rooms all over the world that will do the show for short money and and let the scales tip towards the players.
Hey lets face it if the players want to put up the money like they have just done to play for a dream then just put up the money then play to win it all Back!!!!

Now thats a dream with a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Think about a 32 player tour with $1000. entry
the room takes out $25.00 p.p. for the director & Green fees then all the money gets payed back to the players because its was there money to start with now thats a Tournament for the Players.

$31200.00 Prize pot to play two days of 9ball !
:) Now Thats a dream come true:)

The players can do this alone they just need to get together send me an Email or call me & I will GIT R DONE we will make it a players Game without the BS.

Thanks For Reading this & please pass the word along I would love to put the Fire back in the players Eyes!

Will you take any and all money you make say selling beer or food that is over and above what you would have expected to normally sell and add it to the prize fund? Do you feel your room would have any future benefits from the tournament, I.E. advertising?

If so you should be paying the players for them bringing their show to your place. It is funny, here we are at this juncture and you have gone all the way back to just turning the players into a bunch of whores for someone's else's benefit and making it sound like you are going to do them a favor.

I am afraid your tournament idea doesn't appeal to me. Actually your idea would not work at all. The break even point would be around 6th or 8th place with the rest losing money. Doesn't sound like a very good career move for a player.

This is the mentality that has left pool in the dark for so many years.
why dont you try to open a billiard room with 50 tables and pay the rent and all the overhead with money you make having pro tournaments and you will go out of business sir!
The money a pool room makes that keeps them alive is from the regular people of the street that come in two or three nights a week eat drink and play arcade games and pool leave and come back for all the years your open then they bring there children and it all starts over.
The spectators for the tournaments just don't come out and spend the money that you think they do and as for the future benefits from the tournament, I.E. advertising your are dreaming there also because all the players come from all around the country to play in a tournament with big added money and when the tournament is over you don't see them until you add some more money.
Now its sound to me that the room owners have been turned into a bunch of whores for pool players benefit and making it sound like they are doing them all a favor.
Players have been spoiled with all the added money that the pool rooms have given to the events over the past 20 years.
We alone have added well over 200k in prize money in our 17 years in the pool biz.

If you havent noticed pool rooms all over the country are going out of Business so the added money days are going to slow down with all the room owners im sure.

And as for the payouts the IPT was the only pool tournament that wanted to pay everyone and look what happend to them.
That made great sense if your a pool player because you had nothing to lose unless you were the poor player that had to pay $2000. to play in a Qalifier and got nothing and only two players in that event had a chance to make any money.
then if they went to these big vegas hotels + all the travel cost i bet they still lost about a $1000.
so if my Idea idea doesn't appeal to you thats fine then you sir will lose the chance to play for bigger payouts in the real world not the dream world that the IPT has created for you.

alot of the players have backers that im sure would love to put them into an event for only $1000. to win up to $10,000. for first place and as for only the top 6 or 8 making any money thats what it means to be a winner!
In a real world tournament there always has to be A Winner & a Loser!

Its Time for the players to organize and face the reality that all of them are not going to make a full time job from pool only some of the top 10 or 15 players will have there dream come true and the rest will just have to be the added money!
So i guess i was wrong the tournament should be only 16 players so they can come in get it over in one day make a bankroll and be on to the next city saving all the hotel cost.

Im not trying to make a living of the players I love the game of pool i just want to keep the tournaments alive and you have to remember if all the rooms close the players will have no Tournaments and that would be a bigger problem than the IPT has created!

Considering the average entry fee for a UPA event is in the $200 to $250 range and first place usually pays $10,000, I don't think you'll find as many takers as you might think.

It didn't take much to push your buttons and see what you are really like. I suggest you don't hold pool tournaments. As far as your suggestions for the players it is very flawed and a stupid idea to ask players to play what is basically a ring game for their own money and your amusement. They are much better off in the back rooms matching up in that case.

I loved your suggestions they actually pay you, (Greens fees) for the right to play at your place. Please don't do anyone any favors, not that it sounds like plan on it. I love your math also. A backer puts a player in a tournament with a $10,000 first prize. They player wins and you then take off the $1,000 entry fee ad to that about another $1,000 or so in expenses, now they split up the remaining $8,000.

I will have to change my numbers, now if the player comes in third they are at the break even point. Bottom line is, if you can't figure out how to put on a tournament and not lose money don't have any tournaments. I'm not interested what it cost you to be in business, if you don't like your business or can't make any money find something else to do. By the way, a pool room does not provide any kind of important or necessary need people can't do without. You need the customer, they don't need you, get off your high horse.

Every pool room that hosts a tournament takes out green fees and as for how to make money I have that figured out already and its with the customers that just come in to play pool for the fun and atmosphere not the pool players that will only come to play if you add big money we went that route for many years and like I said in my last post those players come and go they are not your daily Business.

We have many Tournaments without added money and we have allot of great players that love them and appreciate that we do this for them.

As for a pool room does not provide any kind of important or necessary need people can't do without, Tell that to a pool players and the 200 Customers that come to my place every day,

I love this Business and Have met allot of great people and im sorry that you have to come on to this forum and got yourself all worked up but if u don’t have something positive to add to the pool world Then you can just stop looking at the AZ Forum.

PS: Have you ever done anything positive for the pool world I think everyone would like to hear it!

Thanks: :) Have a great day.:)

Here Here SPW

I agree wholeheartedly. I own a room in Cary, NC and have held several professional and amateur tournaments. I've hosted Fury, Jacoby and several National APA qualifiers. If I get 16 players for a higher skill level tournament i'm lucky and they all want added money. I lose money if I can't get at least 32 players.

If you are in the business you must focus on the amateur players. We recently hosted the APA regional for 32 teams ( 8 per team) over a four day period and did terrific numbers. My last APA scotch doubles Las Vegas qualigier brought in 42 teams. (another good weekend).

We all love to see the game played well. I you are in the business however, it is not so much about the game as it is about the clientele. Professional level pool tournaments are costly to run and revenues generated from so-called pro level tournament do not generate anywhere near the income.

We all can pooh pooh the amateur player but that is where the business is.
There are probably only a couple of hundred high level pro players but there are millions of amateurs out there that love the game just as much.

oops i forgot this was the IPT forum

Sorry I failed to mention the IPT in my reply. They still owe me $1100 fro the LAs Vegas event played in July. Enough said. The pool room owners not just the palyers have been given the shaft by the IPT. I still hope that we see a legitamate pro tour in my lifetime.

Like I said, if you don't want to run tournaments don't run them. If you think the players treat you like a whore then don't do it. I was responding to what you said and it sounded like you resent running tournaments and hate the players. You want to have the guys and girls who play for fun and spend a lot of money that is fine and you should run your business as you like. Just stop complaining, you are in the business you have chosen. And no, you are not in a business people can't do without. People going out and eating and drinking and playing pool is a luxury not a necessity. It is just mindless entertainment for most of your customers.
