How often should you change the shaft tip?

hello everyone, when layered shaft tips reach 1 year or more, i see it drys.
doesnt matter which brand, Kamui, Moori, Black King, Ultraskin.

how often should the tip be changed? 6 months, 10 months?
right now, i have a 2 year old Moori medium on my shaft, it's just like a velvet covered marble.

Change it when it's down to 4 layers or doesn't feel good anymore.....
Whichever comes first
 
On a layered tip like a Moori you should change it when it no longer plays like you want it to or when it gets below three layers left on the edge of the tip. Two layers or less is getting in the danger of cracking the ferrule territory. If you use a pad under the tip you can go as low as it will go and still feel good to you.
 
what i'm beginning to realize is schelduled tip maintenence is inevitable,
just like an oil change for an automobile.

here's something else, the dash dress ring's at shaft and joint collar lined up
perfectly when the cue was new, 2 years later and no matter how hard i try, the rings are misalinged.
how did that happen? what caused that?

either i live with gremlins or my custom is haunted :frown:

Your cue tech can realign your rings if it bothers you,
Wood moves and the joint end up compressing more or less

so just as you handle the shaft back to the customer it's time to say "oh, you tip needs to be replace again, it's down to 4 layers!" :grin-square:

Based on others advice here, I cut US's down to 2/3 or half, depending on tip hardness and customer's preference.

as time goes time and you screw the cue multiple times you turn the shaft a little more referred to the butt, hence misalignment happens. Like cuejo said it can be easily fixed by a cue repair man.

Wet your finger and spin it on the outside of the tip once in a while to keep the leather moist.
