APA 9 ball on Sunday on Barboxes and a new TAP 9 Ball starting on Mondays on 9 footers.
Heath,

Where is the new TAP 9 Ball League playing at? What is the format of the league (How many people on a team, what are the races, what time does it start?)

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My goal is not to be a pro or a money player.
I just want to run the table every time.

I'm much more serious than you lazy folks (you know who you are!), but not obsessed like you crazy folks (you don't know who you are, but everybody else does!). :D

I play TAP 8-ball once per week (used to play APA) on 9-footers only. Play in a straight pool deal once per week - its like a round-robin tournament that takes place over a three-month period of time. Some extra hours practicing. Spend some time writing posts you know. A bit more time taking lessons. Work on my cues for a few hours also, burnishing, scuffing, shaping. Read Phil Cappelle a couple hours. Generally, all this doesn't take up too much time, and I find I can pretty much squeeze in sleeping and eating every day. :p

Sent you a PM with the details.

usta play league, then it happened,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,didnt lose a match all season,,,,,,,,,,,,,,took me years to get any action that was close to fair. now i dont play league and find myself happy. no getting out at a set time and having the team depend on me winning. ive also found time to discover the finer points of games like one hole. 8 ball realy does blow.and ive got some good cues that play well. thx to my cue maker

made some great friends over the years and have several home made tapes. my favorite is tommy winning the u s open

btw guys im still alive in fort walton and you can find me at starcade billiards

Like a couple of other posters, how serious I take the game and how serious I would like to take it are very different things. I have three kids (2, 3 and 13), a job that rarely stops at 40 hours and for a “hobby” I own a small retail store that requires 10-20 hours a week of attention. Even without pool, I am pretty busy.

I do manage to get out one night a week for the straight pool league I organize. I have a table at home, so some weeks I may get in as many as eight hours of practice, some weeks zero.

I am not complaining about this. At a minimum, I do get to play straight pool once a week. For this, I have to thank my wife. No matter how tired she is or how pissed off at me, she always makes sure that I am able to get out that one night a week.

I play quite a bit but I have no time to practice. I run a League on Mondays evenings and work Tuesday evening. Wed I play APA, and Thurs I play BCA. I have a tough Straight Pool workout every other Friday. The weekends I have off pool unless there is a big 8-ball or Straight Pool tournament (I'm personally not a 9-ball fan)

The question of how serious I am about the game has been something on my mind for a while as I begin to approach A speed, and realise I have no time to practice. It has all come down to one decision I need to make this week. The US Amateur 14.1 in East Brunswick I am registered for, and am looking forward to. But with the date change to June 2nd, it clashes with my social highlight of the year, the Hoboken Mosconi Cup which I founded, captain, and help to organise. The event is watched by up to 100 people. Am I a social player or a serious player? This week I have to finally answer that question for good.

I haven't hardly played at all in the last 4 months or so...the local pool hall in this backsliding town I play in closed...I'm not one for hack local bars either....meh, I need a break from playing anyways...soon I plan to move to the Detroit area...I need some strong practice with Ronnie or John Binion....around where I live now I come in the front door everybody starts running out the back....LOLz

10 years ago, I was working 40-50 hours per week, and playing pool 50+. Loved every second of it. These days Im lucky to get 5-10 hours a week on the cloth, but still love every second of it. ;)

I'd have to say pretty serious, since I spend the majority of the year traveling, with my job teaching pool, and performing trick shot exhibitions. I love to play, and probably put in at least a couple of hours a day, playing for fun, regardless of where I am, whether I am working that day or not. I play all games, and love them equally...

I am more concerned with keeping my GPA up during the semesters but still manage to play in 2 leagues. I started about 2 1/2 years ago and probably wont ever stop, ever. I have never practiced more than 4 hours a day average for any large span time. I am really going to practice as much as possible this summer and see how much I improve. If I continue improving at the rate I am now I might actually give the pros a shot in two-three years  . They will have to pry my cue out of my cold dead hands to fit me in my coffin ( yes both hands, I will be in stroking position when I die with blue masters all over my hands) :D

5 hours a day almost every day. just wish there were some tournaments within a short drive from here.

Not as serious as I used to be. Not as serious as I want to be.

I hardly practice anymore. I spend more time writing articles than playing. But, I'm serious enough to play in most tournaments available to me, and to make the yearly treks to Louisville, King of Prussia, Las Vegas, and an occassional Chesapeake.

I have been playing pool for about 5 years, but i was usually just banging balls around with friends. About 2 years ago I went to watch a 9 ball tournament and something sparked inside of me. From that day forward I have been in love with the game. I try to spend as much time as possible playing, especially since I got my Scruggs last year. I have played in a few Tri-State Tournaments and in the APA, but no matter where I am or who I am playing with........I love pool!

I tried to be as serious as possible , i really want to be the best i can get !

Right now im at school , but i got 3 out of 5 after-noon off , so while waiting for the Girlfriend i goto the pool Hall .. i Can say i play between 25-35 hours a week , depending if there's any local tourney on the W-E ! Ohh i my dad his putting a table at his place , so i got a Key to his Place now :P haha :P More table time ...

I just started gambling and Love it .. make me come with my best pool like in tournement ! I try to gamble or play with better player then me , wich now is hard to find in my area!

I busted my butt for 15 years in Corporate America and now at 46 I am semi-retired, pool is my social activity. I love the game and like the atmosphere surrounding the game. I never practice and only play 2 sometimes 3 nights a week. Thought about league play but witnessed the political nonsense that goes along with my local league, had enough of that when I was working. No ambitions in the game except being known as a good player in my little world. I think I have accomplished that.

Lately I have lost IT. The desire to play. And the love of the game.

I still go to the club here every day and push the balls around but really have no desire to play anyone.

I think I screwed up my rotator cuff.

Tournaments just seem like a waste of time. All the money goes to 1st and 2nd. And of course there are always 3-4 top players who fight over 1st and 2nd. Too many complainers. Handicaps just allow the weaker player to win. They take too long. Too far to drive. And in Amateur tournaments they let the pros play.

In leagues you have to depend on your teammates to take the game seriously and of course they don't.

Been thinking of just playing straight pool and see if I can consistently make runs into the 20's. Seems like I am stuck in the teens.

Nice article about Allison Fisher in Feb BD. Says she doesn't practice much anymore. Just plays in tournaments and wins. Not bad.

I wish pool had a ladder system where people could compete straight up against people their own level. I see that blackjack is #10 on the RSB challenge ladder.
