Magic eraser is an abrasive pad.
Anything you do to alter the finish on a cue ball degrades it IMHO.
I am thinking it is a cheap imitation as has been suggested.
You have already put work into it. How much is your time worth? Consider that compared to the cost of a new ball...they aren't expensive.
Maybe go at it with some aggressive cleaning like abrasives if you think your time is worth it. If you are satisfied with the results then OK.
